I actually like the original the best, because it captures the threat of an incoming storm. This provides a strong contrast with the subdued nature of the landscape. If staying with monochrome, I would heighten the drama of the sky. |

The all-black background adds so much drama to the image by letting us dwell almost entirely on the feathers. The mother's sharpness makes me think of the Queen of the Night aria in The Magic Flute...it's that dramatic!! |

A fascinating image, which, I think, works best in color.
I like Peter's treatment the best. However, I believe cropping would draw more attention to the bug which is, after all, the main subject! |

Many choices of a lovely subject here. I think Peter's version is the most pleasing, both because of the asymmetry and the sharp detail of the flower's center. |

This is a really beautiful landscape. I agree with Judith; it works better in color, and Peter's rendering - with less saturation - is the one I most prefer. I would love to see another image in the late summer or fall! |

I like your renderings, Peter. Yes, I think it could be subjected to many different treatments.
Ladies, you are right about it being a reflection in the water: a fall reflection of tree branches in a stream amid a myriad of leafs. |
