In the workshop, they placed a picture of a flag about a foot below a piece of glass. Then they sprayed the glass with rain-x, followed by water from a spray bottle. When I finally got the focus right, you could see the reflection of the flag in the bubbles. I cropped the image to show the area that had the most bubbles in focus. I had to flip the image horizontally to get the flags in the bubble in the right orientation. |

Margaret, I like the peaceful sense I get from your photo. I found myself wanting to see more of the structure that is cut off on the right. Based on the deep shadows, I'm guessing you shot this close to midday. I was wondering if bracketing and combining the images would help to get an image where the shadows weren't as deep. An HDR shot might be another way to go. Nice shot. |

Paul, I think Tom said it all. Great photo! I'm wondering whether this was one exposure or stacked. Based on your f-stop, I'm thinking one. What time of day was this? |

Lloyd, I agree with Tom that your image is great because the detail in the robin is wonderful. I think maybe the background is just slightly too bright. I recently learned a trick during my camera club's last competition. The judge suggested using select subject in Lightroom and increasing the exposure on the subject by a quarter stop. Then he said to make a copy of the mask and invert it, and reduce the exposure of the background by a quarter stop. I haven't tried this yet, but thought it might help increase the contrast of the bird against the background. |

Tom, wow! What a great shot! I've tried to get pictures of these guys when I was down in FL. The only one I managed to get was a really large one that was probably very old and didn't move very fast. I love that you captured the iguana eating and that your shot is tack sharp. |

Hi Tom,
At the workshop, they sprayed rain-x on a piece of glass and then sprayed water droplets on it. The focusing was the hardest part. Had several misses, but this one turned out pretty well. It helps that my camera has a large sensor because I had to crop the picture into the main area of focus.
Thanks,
Mary |
