Janos, I actually chose a frame to show a person walking across the sign. To me it made the image more interesting. |

Hi Julie,
That is definitely Route 66. Route 66 was also a TV series in the late 50s early 60s I watched. There are many interesting sites along this once heavily travelled highway running from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. The Interstate highway system built in the 50s bypassed many of the small towns etc along Route 66 turning them into ghost towns, except for the few remaining ones.
I see what you mean about the bright building.

Drema, I am sorry. My reply was directed towards you, not Lisa. |

Lisa, taking the video was extremely difficult. I literally could not see the display on my iPhone. I was holding it inside the back of my SUV and had a spotter who was a big help. This is obviously an additional problem with doing photography during the middle of the day. |

I was referring to things like an oil painting etc. In other words, an effect that would take the photo to an entirely different place. As a photograph, there is nothing I can suggest to improve it. You nailed it. |

Hi Julie,
Welcome to the group. I like your photo and your willingness to get up early to capture the sunrise. What DJI drone are you using?
I wonder if you could make the image even better if you selectively brightened the shadows in the hills/trees in the foreground a bit? As Lisa suggested possibly increasing the saturation bit may be worthwhile - personally, I tend to over-saturate. FWIW. |

Dema, I really like your image. The Lightroom/Photoshop editing you really improved its appeal to me. I like saturated images. Also in this case, it appears you have also opened up the shadows as well.
Presumably, you have used the rule of thirds to position your subject as well as cropping out the bright area in the upper left of the original.
So what can you do to this photo to improve it. Well IMO, not much, except if you want to try some speacial effects.

Lou,
This is an interesting image. I am glad you captured the dust being blown by the one jeep. Without that it would seem to be just a static, and to me, less interesting, image.
In fact, you may to consider cropping the two vehicles on the left entirely and focusing the attention on the center jeeps. And since it is a frame grab from a video, there may be another frame that shows dust from both jeeps. |

I really like your final photo, Pete. The editing of the sky to emphasize the clouds and warming of the foreground, and especially the increase saturation really does it for me.
Your image which focuses on the Joshua Trees could be cropped from the bottom switching the focus to the sky. But I prefer the way you chose to keep the original aspect ratio. |
