Joan, I just took a class that went to San Francisco to do street photography...the class instructor indicated that people with dogs are usually agreeable to having their portrait taken! I am a dog-lover, too. I like how you captured this dog with the hands of the person framing him and the paw coming down the center. There is a glint in both eyes and the rainbow colors of the holder just add to it! Very nice capture that also tells a story! |

Kieu-Hanh, what a very architecturally interesting scene. You have brought out the tone in the mosque nicely and I like how you have left in so much of the tile leading into it. The repeating arches and the windows above are also interesting. I would suggest that you can work on the sky a bit to bring down the highlights and make a few adjustments to bring out the contrast a bit. I agree the speakers distract but I am not sure I would take them out as they are part of the mosque. I have never been to Morocco....I hope you share other images from your trip! |

Thank you, Ruth, for your comments. I really appreciated LuAnn's edits and agree with increasing the exposure on the little finch. |

Thank you, Michael, for your comments. I was pretty lucky with this finch as he was having a great time eating something there and didn't keep moving/jumping around. Yes, I agree that LuAnn has done a great job of increasing the exposure on the little finch. |

LuAnn, I really appreciate your comments and your edit! You have brought out the little finch very nicely. I struggled with attempting to increase the exposure on him and now I have learned! Thank you |

Ruth, what an interesting bird in a very lush environment. It reminds me of a challenge I had in our local park that has a lily pond and an interesting bird was lurking among the leaves. Just as you experienced, the lighting was the challenge. I agree with the others that you can lighten a bit, but I think you have done a very nice job of capturing this bird. The composition is nice as there is room on the right in the direction it is headed, the eye is clear and the image is in focus. I hope you do well in the competition! |

Robert, what luscious looking figs....made my mouth water when I saw your image. The way you have presented them is what I just recently learned as "high key" where the background is light/white enhancing the dark subject matter. All is in focus and shows the fruit nicely. As Michael and Ruth commented, LuAnn is quite talented in still life photography! You can see some of her work in prior months in this group. Have fun with it and enjoy the fruits of your wife's labor! I had to chuckle when I read that she is the gardener...in my home, my husband is the gardener! |

Michael, what a find after oversleeping and running to the opera house! I really like your capture of the sunburst, the light reflection on the building and in the water. I understand the comment by LuAnn and Ruth regarding the color but I like how you processed it. I think the subdued color only adds to the time of day and the serenity of a beautiful setting sun reflected on a very interesting and beautifully built opera house. My only thought and not really a big deal would be to get rid of the two pilings on the right. Lovely image and great memory of the moment. |

LuAnn, this is a beautiful scene that tells a story. The focus is sharp and the path leads the eye to the couple. The gate frames them nicely. I agree with Michael and Ruth that including the entire gage with some of the path in the foreground adds to the story. I also like how Ruth used the transform tool to straighten the roofline. Lovely image. |

Paul, I like the composition of this image with the path leading through the trees. I agree that it needs more contrast to really bring it out. I didn't notice the picnic table, either! |

James, what a lovely landscape image of Crater Lake with the beautiful reflection of the clouds. I didn't have an issue with the snow on the right lower corner as it adds some balance to the clouds. It is really nice in black and white with the shadows, reflections and detail in the trees. Very nice. |

Lorna, I really enjoy scenes like this as well and find that when traveling, I take many! I like the simplicity of it, that angle at which you took it and the texture of the cobblestone. Very nice. |

Cindy, very nice image. I like the composition as I am led right into the scene and up to the altar and the dome above. Nice repeating patterns and I agree that the person adds scale. Very nice. |

Chuck, what a great capture of this happy dog walking along at the market. I don't find the people in the background to be a distraction as you can see from the bag of fruit that it is at a market area so it adds to the story. Fun image. |

Chuck, yes, I agree. I don't particularly like high key but did this for a class and thought I would share. Thank you. |

James, You are correct the fence is a distraction. I do like your version with the tighter crop and I liked the bird's pose, too. Thank you for your comments. |

Lorna, thank you for your suggestions...I am embarrassed about the horizon! I tried to get some texture back in the back of the bird but to no avail. It was a fun exercise for a class I am taking and thought I would see what reaction I got here. |
