Ruth, I like your edit very much. It shows what has been suggested and really highlights the gourd. Very nice. |

I have never heard of the golden spiral in composition and just watched a video about it. Is it possible to see it in the editing programs such as photoshop like applying the grid to see the rule of thirds? I find this fascinating. Other than the rule of thirds, I typically go with what is appealing to me and had no idea there were all these techniques/rules. |

Ruth, thank you for your explanations regarding the competition criteria. I am really intrigued by the idea of telling a story as I think that is a great and challenging judging criteria. |

LuAnn, thank you for asking these questions regarding the competition criteria. Are these competitions through the various Divisions of PSA? I see there is a Nature Division. |

No, my camera does not! I am thinking about a mirrorless upgrade with Nikon and will definitely look for this feature! In the meantime, I will have to check out how to do this manually. I think there is a way to do it and then merge the images in Photoshop. |

Thank you, LuAnn, for these suggestions. I have purchased a studio box with LED lights and diffuser since I took these images. But I still find myself going to the window for the natural light. Your ideas are great and give me more to work with. |

Thank you, Kieu-Hanh, for your nice comments. Yes, I purposely tried for a subtle double exposure. I had tried to take images of the watch without the cover but nothing seemed to work. So, I photographed the entire watch and went with this. Do you think it works our ok? |

Thank you, Michael! FYI, I am still playing with the image of the painted ladies to make it more creative...I will share when I have something to show you. |

LuAnn, thank you for your comments and suggestions. I will give it a try! Just to clarify, for this image I used natural window light coming straight in on the subject. I had not purchased the studio box yet and I don't have a flash for my camera. Yes, your suggestion about the intensity of the oil painting effect in various areas makes perfect sense. Thank you again. |

Kieu-Hanh, What a great find...this black and orange gourd amid the white pumpkins. I love the fall and your image takes me there. I like your edits in taking out the orange in the corners and the blemishes. I agree with others that blurring the white pumpkins a bit will really make your black swan gourd stand out. I also like LuAnn's edits for a very creative rendering. |

Ruth, your edits have really brought out the colors of the environment and the baby alligator as well as highlighted his/her eye! I agree with Michael...it is hard to believe this little "lizard" will grow into such a huge predator! Very nice image of wildlife in the wild! |

Michael, I really like your image of the penguin. You have captured his eye open and I like your edits to bring it out a bit more. Your image also highlights all the textures and colors of the penguin nicely. Very nice image. I appreciate your comments/questions regarding the natural look of wildlife. I tend to lean to reflecting what I saw with wild life. This would be an interesting topic for discussion. |

LuAnn, another beautiful still life image! I like the texture of the garlic and the wood. The lighting really brings out the texture and the rose color in the shadows. When you focus blend, do you just change the focus point for each image? |

Chuck, I agree with the others that the leading lines of the road and trees really bring the eye into the mountain. The vehicle adds interest. The shadows of the trees on the left are nice as well. This is a very nice and lovely image. |

Cindy, you have captured the busyness of a harbor scene very well. I like the reflections and all the detail of the boats as well as the mountains in the background. I prefer it as is. I was curious what editing program you use and what edits you made for this image. Very nice capture. |

Karl, I am enjoying your sports photography very much. In this image you have really captured the thoughts going through the minds of these players and the monochrome version works really well to highlight those faces! I like both the cropped and uncropped versions....I think both work very well. Nice image. |

Paul, I like this image and the story it tells! What history is here. I agree with Karl that some context would add more interest. I also think that bringing out a bit of the shadow in the bridge would show the wood beams more and lead the viewer through it even more. I cropped a bit off the foreground and lightened the interior just a bit using the brightness/contrast adjustment tool in Photoshop. Let me know what you think. |
