It just occurred to me in reading your response that you might try a double exposure that would help with the background and the aspect ratio. I have just played with that a bit and it can be very interesting and fun. |

I like the conversion to black and white as it shows the lines and textures very nicely. The dark lines lead right into the ruins. It would be nice to have the scale but I understand from the responses above that is not possible. I appreciate the magnitude of the space and the ruins. |

Yes, I live in Sacramento, California. My favorite season is fall too....I love the crisp cool air and the falling leaves. We don't get the drastic color changes here....I drove 2 hours a few weeks ago to capture fall colors in an area called Hope Valley near Lake Tahoe. It was beautiful. |

Very nice night photograph. The colors of the bridge reflected in the water and the light streaks of moving vehicles really give this photograph impact. I love NY and visit often but have never seen this bridge....next time! |

Beautiful fall photograph. The leading line of the stairs and the colors along the way invite one into the scene. My only idea would be to take down the brightness of the sky somehow as that is a bit distracting. |

Beautiful and unusual flower! I think the original with some color in background works for me. I think having the context of the bloom is very nice and with a bit of saturation to the bloom, it will pop. Both versions are very nice photographs capturing an unusual bloom! |

Michael, Welcome to our group! I like all of the versions but if I had to pick, I would go with version #2. I think the broom adds alot to the photo and gives it a different feel than the others. Perhaps taking down the brightness in the background would have the man and broom stand out more in that version. But all the portraits are very beautiful as you can see the details of the face. Very poignant photographs. |

I like the fall colors and the textures in this photograph. I also like the imperfections of the leaves. Very nice fall photograph. |

Michael, thanks for the tips. My Photoshop Elements does bring the photo into Camera Raw first and I have been changing it to black and white then before using any of the sliders. I will experiment with editing the color version first. |

I have tried to bring out some detail of the bridge. Does this seem better? When I change a photo to b&w, is it better to edit the color file first or change the raw file to b&w and go from there? Thank you, Mary Ann |

Hi LuAnn. Thank you for all your efforts with this photo. I do plan to take the raw photo and try to bring out some detail in the bridge. The time this was taken was in the afternoon so I don't know about the time that was indicated on the file! I will be sure to let you know how it goes. Thanks again. |

Welcome Michael to the group! I have been a member for about 3 months and have appreciated the feedback on my photos very much. I use Photoshop elements to edit which starts with bringing the raw photo into Camera Raw. I was unhappy with the color when I originally edited it so I brought it back into Camera Raw and changed to monochrome and went from there. I like your suggestion about bringing out some detail in the bridge and will give it a try. Just fyi which I should have included in my summary, this is the Oakland Bay Bridge taken from Treasure Island going into to San Francisco. Thank you for your comments and your suggestions! |
