I remember seeing some of your Lake Baikal images from last year. I bet our vans crossed somewhere on the lake. Weren't we lucky to be out there before the world shutdown! |

Clean, simple and no distractions makes for a very pleasing image, Debbie. Red is always a good color to find as your subject, plus you found the complementary green on the color-wheel in the grass. Maybe take out the left half-tree? |

Just a terrific vantage point, Peter. The image has strong impact and nice layering. I have never photographed waves like that, but I wonder as Dave suggested, whether experimenting with shutter speeds makes sense? Otherwise, your composition is spot on. |

Fascinating image, Janos! At first, I couldn't quite imagine what I was looking at until I read your description. I love that. The intimacy of the patterns are gorgeous. I want to Photoshop a little house on top of that rock (just kidding). |

There are several elements that make this a strong image. The change in clarity from clear to milky is interesting and something you don't see that often in waterfall shots. The lighting was worth the wait, Dave, as it speckles in an attractive pattern creating those gorgeous shadows. And, the surrounding rocks have the attractive moss with the complementary palette colors.
I really like it "as is". Ian's comment did remind me of a competition judge that did once comment to me that a waterfall without a pool at the bottom is incomplete, but I think that's old thinking. If the pool is interesting, it might be worth including rather than the flat area at the top. Otherwise, I would leave it as you have. |

Terrific, all around, Sherry! The foreground combined with the meandering shoreline leading to the lighthouse make for a very enticing composition. In addition to the log, I like the rocks that form a path toward the lighthouse as well. You could smooth the sea a bit with a blur or reduced clarity to help match the serenity of the rest of the scene, but that is a subjective choice. |

I enjoyed walking through this image, Ian. Sometimes, having a large element on the side of the frame can be offsetting, but I imagined myself walking up the grass on the right, under the tree toward the bridge and watching a terrific sunrise.
The long exposure does a nice job in smoothing the water and bringing out the reflections. The opera house is positioned perfectly in the background for added interest. Overall, it is a unique take on a classic location.
I do not have much to suggest. Perhaps the lights on the right side could be toned down as they are the so much brighter than the bridge. |
