The light and colors are magical and I like that you got just enough focus to even make out the background mountains. There is one tiny sensor spot left foreground in the water and the horizon is just barely tilted towards the right. Beautiful to look at...keep playing! |

Nice subtle and restful colors. I had what I was going to say all in my head before I read the dialogue between you and Dianne so much of what I was going to say has been said. It is a great storytelling image and has nice peaceful feeling created. I agree re the placement of head and wanting a bit more to the left. The feeling of crowdedness seems to take away from the peacefulness for me. In PS you might try adding a bit of canvas to the left and then content aware fill it given that you don't have any more of the shot to the left. The one other thing I notice is the foreground fisherman has a bit of haloing around him...perhaps from bringing up shadows or sharpening? All in all a restful inviting shot |

I love the peacefulness of this image and the light snow covering works for me. I ca sure see this as a wall hanger, maybe on metal. I have mixed feelings re the buoys and agree that the far right doesn't seem to add a lot. For fun and because I wanted to be able to see it bigger, I took it into PS and played a bit. I cropped a bit off right, got rid of several sensor dust spots, added a bit of haze reduction and contrast in camera raw filter and then decreased the blue saturation and increased the magenta and lightness a bit on the spot the light hit the mountain. I also burned a tad on the right edge where it was brighter for no good reason that I could see. None of this, other than the sensor dust, may help any but I had fun. The only thing that bothers me about your image is the curved horizon line and I suppose someone more skilled than I in PS would know how to fix it maybe using liquify. All in all a gorgeous image |

Sweet ornament and I can see why you chose to photograph it. I'm wondering since you wanted to blur out around Santa re using a wider aperture...maybe 5.6 or so. I often shoot a stationary shot like this at a wide variety of apertures so that I can end up using whichever i like the best. I think it might be improved by either a tighter framing to include the two nicely starred lights but not Snoopy or the bottom left weird color. |

The reflections and colors are gorgeous. What I particularly like is the repeating diagonal lines of the clouds that seem to take the eye away into the beautiful pink yonder and the z shaped line of the dock and pier. The shapes of the buildings are interesting as well. The only thing that doesn't seem to me to work well is the couple's heads being on the same line as the pier |

Thanks Damon for your, as always, thoughtful comments. I kind of like how the far right cut off rock and the far left one seem to echo each other. Re tripod...yes, it was on a tripod. I guess since I live on the coast and my tripod and cameras frequently get kissed by salt water or at least salty air, I follow each photo shoot with a wet down and dry off of tripod and camera (damp rag for camera...sometimes a shower for the tripod). So far all has been well and my tripod is almost 10 years old |
