Oh I definitively think the color brings it to life! I don't think I would have not done anything but straighten and a little cropping. I like leaving some of the foreground...gives me more of a sense of being there. But this is just my opinion. Either is a great capture!!! |

Hi Jane, what caught my eye was the fog. My initial feeling was coldness. I have never been to that part of the country; so for me your photo give me a feeling of what it is really like to be there. Isn't that what a good photo should do? If that was your goal, for me you really nailed it. |

Damon, you and I have had a discussion before about how much you should/should not edit. I personally love the symmetry of the structure and the tack sharpness of the photo. I like the composition not being directly on center. You would have lost some of the detail of the center spire had it been taken directly on center. For my own education would you share the original color raw for comparison? |

Hi Emmy, when I first saw your photo, I almost felt like I was on a glass elevator on the upper floors of a high rise building. And them when I looked at the size of the trees in the bottom right, I really felt that way. I think the contrast from the black and white of the left and the color on the right really give a three dimensional effect. |

Damon, thank you very much for your comments. To be honest Damon, the reason for the AI sharpening is my insecurity. When I submit something here or in my camera club I've always wanted it to be as tack sharp as possible. I never thought about a detrimental effect of sharpening. The sharpening software did help the detail in the very middle of the pansy, but it wasn't significant. I don't have a specific justification for matrix metering other than inexperience. I was concentrating on depth of field, sharpness and composition and getting the shot before I lost my natural light. I went back and cropped out some on the right and played with the contrast, as shown in the attached photo. I think this does show some more petal detail and I definitely like the revised crop. The only lighting adjustment I did was "auto smart fix" in PE2020. Again, I sincerely appreciate your critique. It is very helpful. |
