24 Sep 20 Reply Laura thanks for the suggestion. I actually did this with some of the other photos I took on this shoot. Here the updated B&W photo. I thinks it works well for this scene as it emphasizes the lines and forms in the photo. Sep 10th
24 Sep 20 Comment Laura I like the way you captured the deep purple color of the flower and the sharp veining in the petals. The way you offset the larger bloom creates a dynamic flower photo. I do notice the purple edges on the top petal of the main flower and the top petal of the right flower. The purple edges do not show up on the other petals. Could this be caused by the way the sunlight was falling on the edges? I agree with John that the out of focus pedals on the LH bottom corner are distracting. However, I would also include the tiny pedal in the upper LH corner too. With these removed the edge of out-of-focus bloom in the background draws your eyes to the main subject. Sep 8th
24 Sep 20 Reply Steve I never noticed this before but you are right. Okay, that is not where I want the viewer to focus on. Any suggestions on changing the pictures to emphasis the three lonely trees in the picture? Bringing out the details as Jim suggested earlier seems to help to de-emphasis the snow. Sep 7th
24 Sep 20 Comment I like the concept of the garlic arrangement. This still-life type of photography is something I have never tried. The black background and the reflection of the garlic on the glass makes the photo more interesting. For some reason I do find that most of the garlics are slightly out of focus. I think a slightly greater depth of field might have helped this. It also seems the two garlic subjects are on the same plane in the photo. To me this create a static image. I would suggest moving the single garlic closer to the foreground to create a more dynamic image, see attached picture. Sep 4th
24 Sep 20 Comment Tab - I think that you did a great job capturing this photo in such a dark location. I understand why you have this picture on display. The warm tones in the fire and vibrance in the colors of the daughter's dress are wonderful. The placement (rule of thirds) of the daughter and the fire are spot on. I do agree with Jim that the bright sunlight slits are a little distracting. I also think some of the white area details are lost on the cooktop. I tried to bring these out by adjusting the Tone Curve in Lightroom, see attached picture. Sep 4th
24 Sep 20 Reply Jim I liked how you brought out the details in snow. What texture, dehazing and contrast settings did you use? I have not used these tools before. I have so much to learn. Keep the suggestions coming. Sep 3rd
24 Sep 20 Reply I was thinking that fill-in flash in this shot would have been helpful to create the frame within the frame look as you would actually be able to see the outer frame. Sep 2nd
24 Sep 20 Reply Jim changes look great. I see your point in using the grass to anchor the foreground. Sep 1st
24 Sep 20 Comment Steve Sampliner Zhongshan-Palace-2: Steve you challenged the viewer with this shot as it took me a while to figure out that you were shooting through a doorway. At first, I through I was looking at an old B&W photo in a frame. I believe you succeeded in creating the frame within a frame look you were looking for. Sep 1st
24 Sep 20 Comment Jim this is great shot of your grandson. I like that you caught him in mid-air along with the concentration on his face in getting to first base and the opposing team's reaction. You did a great job bringing out the colors and details in the uniforms and spectators. My only suggestions are to crop out the legs of the two spectators behind the bleachers and eliminate the grass in the foreground by cropping the picture a little more, see my example. I think the foreground grass distracts from the visual effect of your grandson being in the air. Sep 1st

97 Sep 20 Reply Larry I would love to get your shutter speed rules. I am always interested in getting new photo tips. Sep 9th
97 Sep 20 Reply Steve M. thanks for the suggestions. I liked the cropping you did. The fallen tree in the background was a little distracting. I am a rookie when it comes to PS. I am taking training seminars from my local camera club so I have no excuse not to practice using Smart Sharpen. Sep 1st
97 Sep 20 Reply Steve S. I like what you did to the exposure in Lightroom. I never thought of doing this. Appreciate the idea. Sep 1st
97 Sep 20 Comment Steve S. if you had not given me a hint of what to look for (Forest Pearl Charaxes') I am not sure I would ever have found it in the photo. I think you did a good job capturing a sharp image of the butterfly. Must be all the practice you have gotten. 😊I also liked the sharpness of the rocks on the right side of the photo. I did notice that you chose to display the butterfly in the middle of the image. I feel that this creates a more stagnant feeling to the image. Since the original photo was not included in the posting I do not know if you had room to crop the butterfly off-center to create a more visually interesting photo. I did try rotating the photo 90 degrees, cropping it slighting to offset the butterfly and adjusted the tone curve to bring out the colors in the butterfly. I also think doing this creates some lines in the photo that draw the viewer to the disappearing butterfly. Sep 1st
97 Sep 20 Comment I love taking pictures of the birds at the beach. You do not have to worry about trees and bushes blocking the subject. You did a great job capturing the interaction between the two sea gulls. The blurred background keeps the focus (no pun intended) on the two gulls. Maybe a slightly greater depth of field might have helped with keeping the entire body of gulls in focus. I did notice that you chose to display the two subjects in the middle of the image. I feel that this creates a more stagnant feeling to the image. Since the original photo was not included in the posting I do not know if you have room to crop the two gulls off-center to create a more visually interesting photo. Sep 1st
