Yes, you are not allowed to flash animals. The argument is, that the eyes of a night bird are very sensitive. Same effect, if you carry a night vision spectacle and somebody will turn a 100 lumen flashlight.
There are different meanings about this. |

Butch, like usual! Outstanding picture! Even with a laser trap is this photo a really difficult subject! Just the moment, when the owl will get into the nest with the prey in his beak and the claws preparing the landing! Chapeau.
And congrats to your wildlife friend. Here in Germany you may only shot with night vision cameras. |

Very good shot, Kathleen! Here in Germany the Northern Pintail
get very seldom. Last view was about 5 years on our local pond.
You can see the feathers, very nice mirror and the backgroud is blurry like it should! Big shot! |

I'm with you, Roy! Not every photo must be sharp. It is perfect to show the bird in his habitat and you can see everything. I like the photo this way! |

I never heard about this bird - thank you for posting. Perfect placed at the edge of a branch so he can look out best for his prey. Sharp - as the claws (omg!). |

Very nice photo, Ernoe! I like the background showing the green nature and the posture of the nightingale. The speaded tail feather are the eye catcher. Good story, congrats! Take this one for PSA nature too! My suggestion will be, cropping the photo a little bit so the left corner will disappear. |

Christ, these are the very moments, when a photographer will get wet eyes. A perfect shot to the right time. I once succeeded in capture a swallow chasing an insect - as a panning photo. But not this sharpness. Congrats!
