Darlene, thank you for your comment. I intended to show the wet cobblestone as main story. The houses are intended to complement the scene.

I like this picture, Henry! I'm with Jim to crop the photo, but not in this dark way. |

Very interesting perspective, Christian. Did you chose this crop because of the picture behind? I would like to see it with the tattoo and the pirate cap without the picture in a portrait shape? The toning is first class! |

Christian, indeed, I have chosen Ap 11 and 20 Seconds. Probably too long for the neon. 10 seconds would have been better. The light on the cobblestone is like I wanted it. |

Hi Jim, thank you for your suggestion! It was November, about 4 pm. Not really night, the stores had been open. I caught a silent minute to take this picture, but there was really trouble to that time. Maybe I can darken the windows a little bit but the rest would be authentic. Your version would show the shops closed with some remaining light.

I know these situations well, Roy! Tons of photos and only a few of them survive. Changing light depending where you are aiming at. I'm photographing always in a manual mode. Aperture 8 is a default, ISO depends on the available light (unto 8.000) and the shutter speed. Birds are too quick in the first movement, so I prefer 1/2500 unto 1/8000 sec. The smaller the birds, the shorter the shutter speed. The problem is the relationship between the size of the bird and the distance: A sparrow in a distance about 150 feet is a problem for every lens, even 800mm on tripod. Probably acceptable, but mostly not.
In any case, you made a big job out there. Wished, I had been with you! |

Thank you Roy. I'm very cautious with the rules. In some explanations it is said, that particial editings are not allowed. Means, that darken the water and brighten the eyes will be forbidden. If not, your suggestion is a very good hint for at least one point of each judge (this would be my interpretation) and would bring 3 acceptances <8compared to the six rejected results) - only statistics, but helpful to understand how others will see your photo.
I will check this up and make another try with this photo. However, your version is really good! |

I always fail in determine juvenile gulls - too similar. In this case I think it's a common gull first winter.
Great shot, perfect sharpness. and, again, I would agree to Roys suggestion, less dust brightens the photo. |

Puffin are the stars amongs the birds! Great capture with so much fish. Poor Puffin must defend them towards so much enemies - hard job!
What was the reason to take this photo with Aperature 5.6? The background? I would have had another try with Ap 8.0 to have the rest of the bird as sharp as the head. Did you?
I think, the bokeh would be nearly the same - for the green part. Probably the stone in the background would be a little sharper. Would not be disturbing I think. |

Perfect photo! Technical high score! Like Roy I would try to give more room to the viewpoint. Not sure, if your RAW would be able to show that. Roys version is a hint how to do. |

This is a perfect shot, Ernoe! The white-throated dipper is very busy, so you can only catch him with a short shutter speed. All the more astonishing the smooth floating water which indicates a longer shutter time about 1/60? Very good combination, congrats!
I'm with Roy to crop the photo this way! |

Very good shot, Sylvia! Resting egrets like grey herons are very often on trees - they like to build nests in trees or bushes too. The photo is very sharp. This would help you to crop it a little bit. I would suggest a 3:2 relationship. I would keep the bottom and the left side of your photo, starting a little bit over the head. Probably you can reduce the white a little bit to bring out the feathers of the egret around his head? |

Many thanks for your comments! I like the edit of Roy!
There are two things I want to add to this post. First is the technical part. I shot this photo on 8th of May in 2020 on a city pond in Hanover, Germany with my old camera Canon 7D Mark II and a Sigma lens 150-600 mm at 350 mm. Distance to the object about 40 m. Aperature 7.1, 1/1000 sec and 500 ISO on a pretty sunny day.
Second is, that nearly all of my photos are competition photos - mostly posted in PSA-Nature. The processing of the photos is restricted. This photo had been running in 6 different salon and got no acceptances. Indeed, I do not know the reason why. I come back to the suggestion of Roy. I'm not sure, if this will be allowed in Nature. With this version I can probably try it in some PID-C competitions. In furture I will mention if the photo runs in ND or PID-C. I appreciate every hint!photos - mostly posted in PSA-Nature.
