11 Jul 24 Reply Very good, Jim! I'm waiting for the final result of PJD / Star 5 which will complete my application for MPSA. After that I have a plan for BPSA too - a lot of themes but not really an idea. I probably need a consultant! Jul 25th
11 Jul 24 Comment Henry, your photo is very interesting. It allows to recognize more than one story, so it is up to you to define what you want to see. To pick up the idea of Jim and to avoid the sloping angles, you may separate the pipes from the distracting ceiling and change the background. Jul 24th
11 Jul 24 Comment Jim, best wishes for your application! Think this wonderful photo must take part for BPSA. For competition nature you cannot remove the stalk, but do it for PIDC and PIDM. I always have several derivates. Jul 24th
11 Jul 24 Comment I like that, Jim. The branches are like veins of nature and the main part of your story. So it is my oppinion too, that the colors ars distracting. B&W gives more focus on it. Would like too see the picture without the soil only the branches and the clouds. Jul 24th
11 Jul 24 Comment I want to be honest: First glance to the original I would have thrown away the picture ... what a fault!

Sensational change into B&W! Be honest too: Did you intended that while taking the photo? Very strong light over the trees with the best down the right corner. Precise line! Of course the left corner is too light. I'm not sure if there is any painting in the end. But that does not matter - it leeds into the story. A must have! Congrats!

Jul 24th
11 Jul 24 Comment First, complement to Darlene for a perfect photo. I like the color version and the mono as well. I do not know the location and if it was possible to take the photo in landscape format. But with a perfect angle I can imagine I would get more of the wonderful forest and the mountain in this wonderful light. But this vision in my brain must not be compatible with the reality.

Next, I do not understand anything in these comments - I do not know any of the mentioned software. I must find more time for the photo after taking the photo ...

11 Jul 24 Comment Jim, Henry, thank you too for your comments. I really should make some further steps in photoshop - on the other hand there is still room for more in photography. There are things to be done.

By the way: Next time I will take "my answer" with me: new lens 200-800 mm Canon. Light enough to be carried around and making precise photos. 200mm were definitely too short and 800 mm with the 400mm 2.8 plus extender to heavy for a day in the zoo. Next time in september!

11 Jul 24 Comment Hi Christian,
Thank you for your contribution. It shows one thing above all: my knowledge about Photoshop (I do not use Lightroom) is rudimentary. More than working with tools, a photographer should take care about the situation with the camera, ha! I didn't recognized, that the shutter speed was about 1/8000 instead of 1/800. This pushed the ISO to 3200. All in all too short, to pick up detail information for the picture. First, 200mm are too short for the distance - 300mm will do it better. In a couple of weeks I hopefulla receive my new 200-800mm lens. Second, even on a sunny day a shutter time of 1/400 upto the max of 1/800 should be sufficant for this object moving slow or even rest still. Third, wait, until he's looking straight into the camera. This will hinder, that the eyelashes cover the eyes and destroy a structure while lighten up the dark parts. What does a photographer do in those situations? Try it anew ... I will show a result then.

11 Jul 24 Comment Thank you Jim. I have already tried to lighten the eyes. I have had a similar result as yours but this would destroy the eye structure. The lens has been to short to take more information into the dark parts. I will try it with a new lens in two months. Hope, I can present a better result! Jul 8th

97 Jul 24 Comment I admit, Kathleen! They are beautiful with their feathers. Great to see how they are landing, every feather spreading far away. Big shot! Jul 10th
97 Jul 24 Comment Concentration on the prey. Eyes fixed. That's a photo. Now waiting for the fish! Jul 10th
97 Jul 24 Comment Good timing! It is worth it having time to observe. Interactions between birds are always very interesting! Great catch! Jul 10th
97 Jul 24 Comment What a symmetry, Erno! This is really a great photo. In our region we will see the black stork not so often - and he is a bit shy. This one is for the gallery! Jul 10th
