75 Nov 20 Comment Thanks all for your comments! Your thoughts on the background echo my own thinking about the brightness/prominence of the background vs. the bird. I've considered making the background both more and less saturated, but I think with a stronger difference between the owl and the background the image looks unreal. Walter, I did try a closer crop, but didn't present that version because I wanted to keep the cacti intact to give a good sense of place. Nov 14th
75 Nov 20 Comment I think your treatment of the image in post was very effective at adding interest to the original. Intentional camera movement of necessity makes the image blurry, and you brought our many points of interest that were not as apparent. Well done! Nov 14th
75 Nov 20 Comment I like the idea of a central light highlighting the flower, but agree that it would have been more effective with a sharper center to the flower. You can achieve lighting that is strongest in the center and fades to the periphery either with your lights, reflectors & diffusers in the field, or can create the effect using a radial graduated filter in Lightroom. I find that I prefer shooting flowers on an overcast day, as my subjects start out with uniform lighting that I can modify to my taste afterwards. Nov 14th
75 Nov 20 Comment Walter, my thoughts are a mix of what has been said. I love the subject and composition. The s-curve is very appealing and the snake has plenty of room "to travel". Catching it in mid-tongue-flick was an added bonus. You can see each scale and the slit of the eye. Since the yellow leaf is the only one that survived the crop and sits directly next to the snake's head, I find it a bit distracting too. Nov 14th
