Thanks all, for your comments! Pauline, I can see your point about leaving the trees in the image, but I felt that that would have left too much foreground. With the current crop, the image borders on the abstract, where color and line are the prominent features. |

What a striking image! I've been to the Harris hawk demo at the Sonoran Desert Museum and didn't get anything as good as this. I agree with Janice that some gentle lightening of the underside of the wings would bring out the color and detail better. |

Kerry,
I like what you did with the photo. Dehazing was certainly needed, as the original was a bit washed out. I think keeping the extra vertical space in the barn was appropriate to give a sense of place. I like that the dog in the foreground is out of focus, as it brings the eye back to the frustrated sheep. One small niggle; the pink cord probably holding the door open brings in a color that doesn't fit with the earth tones of the animals and the barn; maybe it could be cloned out. |

Janice, you did a good job of bringing up the light on the foreground to show it better. I like the composition, with the stream giving you a place to visually enter the middle ground on your way to the mountains. Gently increasing the colors in the sky add to the appeal of the image. All-in-all, nicely done! I'd love to be there now. |

I like the original image better, as the second isn't that much sharper and I think the background in the original is more appealing. Unfortunately grabbing the camera to quickly shoot a fast-moving bird is difficult, and a blurry image is a common result. Does your camera have presets? Mine has three, I think, and I keep one of them set to shoot birds. Then if an opportunity to capture a quick-moving subject arises, I can rapidly choose the preset which has a high ISO, high shutter speed, continuous focus and multiple frames per second. |

Walter, you've been showing us the beauty of common creatures, a real treat. I agree with Janice's comments--it seems surprising that even at f/11 there are some areas of soft focus, but at such small distances the depth of field for any lens is really small. |
