Beautiful shot and very sharp. Try using either LR or Camera Raw in PS and slide the highlights to the left and the shadows to the far right. That will be far better than moving the contrast slider. I normally keep that one at 0 center.

I was in a special land rover in Kenya that had a solid roof with a hatch in the middle of the roof. When we were stopped I could stand up with my head, shoulders, and arms above the roof. I put several sandbags on the roof. If I was shooting horizontally I could lay my heavy camera and lens on the stack of sandbags. For most bird photos I had to point in an upward elevation. So I would rest my left elbow on one sandbag as a brace and use my left hand to hold up the lens and camera.
Clearly it would be very dangerous to get out of a vehicle in the open areas in Africa and set up a tripod. You would have no protection from hungry predators and your eye would be looking into the camera.
