Marge, now I see how the darker colors and sharpness Art and Kurtis used captured the feel of night much better than I did! I have a feeling you enjoyed watching fishing boats off Jekyll Island as much as I do here. It is such a wonderful, serene feeling. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! |

Regine, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I had not thought about showing more open space on the ocean as Art did in his edit. Glad you mentioned that! |

Kurtis,I like seeing this as a vertical and how you added more emphasis on the moon and boat instead of the ocean. I like how your edit shows another way to edit this image, thank you for taking the time to share this!

Art, I like how you saw this as a panoramic, made the image more vibrant and cropped the bottom. Interestingly, you decided to lowered the moon and spaced the boat more to the right. As a side note, I took 20+ pictures that evening and the first ones look much like your composition. I even debated which image to feature here, the one above or this one. Thank you for your edit!

Can I chime in with another "me too"? I think the original picture has a lot going for it; great story telling, colors and scenery plus the fog adds even more interest. For me, Art's editing has made this image into a Wow!! Marge, this is a beautiful picture you could hang on your wall. You have a good eye for seeing beauty! |

Very nice shot, Kurtis, I'm glad you decided to show it. And I like how Art darkened the background and sharpened the feathers against the egret to help it stand out more. I think it will look great on your wall, great job! |

LOL, Regine, must admit I have not seen this pose before! You did a great job though capturing such a symmetrical shot, there is a lot of nice detail in the feathers and I think the sun light adds interest. Thanks for sharing this!

Hi Xiao, adding more mid-gray tones to the feathers sounds like a great idea, I will do that. Maybe I can also capture more detail around the head area. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! |

Thank you, Xiao, for sharing this. The way I have been handling backgrounds is timely and the results are not as nice as yours. So happy to learn a much better way! |

I am also amazed how dedicated these birds are when it comes to nest building, feeding and raising their young! Both parents seem to have endless energy and the chicks always seem be hungry and demanding food!!
I will try your suggestion to saturate the sky a bit, thank you!

Thank you, Lisa, it is amazing to see some herons carrying such a long stick back to the nest for their mate to use in nest building! Although, no one seems to mind and that's what is important.
My mistake on identifying the heron, it is clearly a "Great Blue", my bad.
Have you visited Magnolia Swamp Garden in the past couple of years? When I took this picture many years ago it was beautiful and full of all kinds of birds and other wildlife. A few years ago it went downhill and when they partially drained the swamp all the wildlife left. I understand they have been successful returning it back to its former beauty. Wildlife continues to return and now there is a lot of nesting it going on. Am really looking forward to returning before long.

Lisa, a terrific shot of the owl in flight! The wings are very sharp looking and so beautifully stretched out in flight. Also the "sitting" post compliments the overall color. I love this!! |

Maria, I really like your shot of the heron. Hope you don't mind me re-editing it based on the suggestions from the others. I used Bridge, the sliders and masking tool to define the feathers a bit more, then cropped in PS. A great picture! |

Jack, this is a stunning picture with lovely colors and nice sunlight on the feathers. Too bad parts of the egret are blown out. Even though, the graceful curvature of the wing over the head, plus the other wing lightly touching the water, creating small bubbles makes this a sensational picture to frame and hang on your wall. (Oh, and I forgot to mention the fish which is an additional bonus!) Beautifully captured in my opinion!! |
