96 Nov 20 Comment I think your instinct that there was a great picture here was correct. To my eyes there are so many horizontals, with the gravel jetty, the red buoys and the far shore with the buildings and their sky-line. I do not think that the fence, the foliage, the road belong and so I wish that you had been leaning over the fence when you took the shot. Nov 13th
96 Nov 20 Comment Cheryl, I am envious of your ability to capture electric lights during a long exposure without blowing then out. In this image I like the clear reflections and the way the street lights form a path sweeping in from the left. The contrast in the buildings (light to dark faces) really catches my attention.
My feedback is that I do not think that the two banks work well together - their contrast is intellectually interesting but not I feel visually. I would crop to highlight the left.

96 Nov 20 Comment Robert - I think this is sort of magical. My favourite tree is the left foreground one with its curves and dark knots accentuated by snow - but the front floor is perfect particularly with the slight darkness on the right which seems to me to lead the eye into the wood.
Really hard to improve ... and I have tried. My goal would be to reduce the intensity/brightness of the yellow in the back, center of the trees. I think it is less subtle than the other elements.

96 Nov 20 Comment So, technically, I love the precision in the foreground grass and the mid ground (water and barns): the reflection rewards my attention to it with the texture of the surface plants and the mirror of the slightly distorted reality beyond.

To my eyes the scene is a little large - basically I do not think the sky is very interesting and it distracts from the action on the mid-ground - so I would suggest you might focus in on the water a little more (that is the crop). Taking a wild leap further however, and forgive me for likely mistaking your intent, I took the two themes of dream and isolation and arrived at the idea of a hazy vignette (vintage) [ which you suggested to me :-) ] ... which happily my software supports.

96 Nov 20 Comment Dale - I love the lighting also - the contrasts and the green tones come out well. As with last month, I like the effective bifurcation of your image into left/right halves (by the tree).

My idea was to try to recrop because I am not finding a point where I would settle - however my instinct was to place the tree on a line-of-thirds and I could not make that work. Instead I found that for me the removal of some of the grass at the bottom seemed to elevate the force of the foliage. I also played a little in Color Efex Pro's dark contract with the same intent as Robert - but over the whole image.

96 Nov 20 Comment He who hesitates ...
I like the idea of emphasizing the center with a vignette - and with that in mind I wondered if there was too much that was unremarkable on the right side. Tell me if this improves to your eye
