Hi Ingrid, thanks for that input in reviewing, I think the next attempt may be to desaturate and perhaps soften some areas to remove the hard graphic feel. Thanks for taking the time to comment |

Thank you for that input Darcy, In reviewing I do think it may be a bit graphic for a flower, the next attempt may soften the image and desaturate some areas. Thanks for commenting. |

Hi Syad,
Great storytelling image and very well captured, under those circumstances, I particularly enjoy the different textures between the rough water and smooth water where the workers are protected by the boats. Also with a number of them looking up, noticing you, give the image a personal touch and a bit of further interest. The only comment I would make is that it does seem a bit mono and flat which was probably very hard to avoid, perhaps a bit more shading or a vignette to bring the centre of the image into the workers would help. |

Hi Karen a great job depicting the scene and showing the intent and effort of the competitors in this. I like the panning technique you've used to keep the main subject in focus and slightly blur the blur the background, always difficult to get panning correctly achieved. I agree with the other comments on the right-hand side of the image, the horses do need somewhere to go. A nice sporting image thanks for sharing |

Hi Darcy
Always fun to get out and experiment with opportunity shots. I do like your composition and the fact that the top of the strap leads the eye straight to the conglomeration of ice crystals on the right side of the image.
I believe that the choice of F6.3 is a bit narrow for this style of image the separation of the ice crystals is lost due to the blurring created by the depth of field at 6.3 aperture. I believe that if you stod 6 feet away with the setting you used you would have virtually no depth of field, less than half an inch, I recommend you check a few websites that provide DOF calculators for various lenses and settings, these will give an indication of what will be in focus and where you start to lose focus. Search Depth of field calculator, I recommend PhotoPill (one word) as a starting point, they have a good guide and explanation, they also have a range of other helpful advice. I found it hard to get my head around Depth of Field when shooting Macro, it does not seem intuitive (to me at least)
Also in processing, I think a bit more contrast would be achievable by reducing your Blacks in either Light Room or what other processing tools you use, I took the liberty of using your image and reducing the blacks, as per attached as an example |

Hi Greg
Strong image, choosing silhouette for this works well, I particularly like your choice to apply what looks like a gradient from the top, dark areas down to the brighter ground level with the lighter area behind the main image giving strength to the silhouette. The detailing in the figures is good however around all the elements there are halos. The choice of just using three riders also adds to the strength of the image as I understand our brains are more attracted to an uneven number of elements. Other than the halos a very strong image which I like. Thanks for sharing |

Hi Ingrid
A very strong bold image well handled in black-and-white with the various luminosity levels been appropriate for this image. There is enough detail in the bold main structure which could easily have been lost to total blackness, well handled. The sharpness of the structural elements also adds to the overall strength of the image and you are applauded to be to have taken this from a moving car. As a compositional comment, it's a shame that the two main suspension elements do not come into the image at the same point in the frame, perhaps next time stopping the car in the middle of the road and causing a major traffic accident would be the go (okay perhaps not) well captured from a moving car lovely image very strong. Thanks for sharing |

Hi Xiao
Lovely colourful image and great choice of depth of field having one very sharp flower and regression in focus going into the background, the background blurring in my view makes this image work. I do agree with Gregory that there is a lot of negative space in the image which is not adding to the strength of the image. I particularly like the combination of the three flowers grouped in the centre top of the image the other two flowers in the image seem to draw my eye away from the main grouping.
Lovely image captured very well and very sharp thank you for sharing |
