Thanks to both Tom and Diana, and Stephen you are right, there are a lot of ways to crop this image, as both Tom and Diana suggests. I have now done several versions, and I like Diana's proposed result. I also tried a full panorama 16:9 with more of the bottom cropped off - this I also think is workable. In fact, these days I have this image participating in some of the salons around, and for new salons I will try a cropped version here and there. |

Good point Stephen, I'll try and remember to make a thin border if an image gets too dark along the edges.
The shot is obviously one of many I took when those kids were playing, but I chose this one exactly for the same reason as you mention; with the girl in the middle. I would not crop it too much, as this was taken with a 70-300mm lens at 260mm, handheld at 1/400s, and they were running fast, so it is not exactly too sharp. The kids were far away. But if we forget about sharpness, I agree there is a lot of possibilities for cropping and alternative finished products. |

Yes, the color original is rather gaudy. It calms down a bit when converted to mono.Sort of artistic like a rough drawing. You could probably get the same or similar result by using just one photo and then playing with the ''artistic'' filters in Photoshop. Being a European, I don't think I have seen a pump like this. The image itself is fun! |

But it was a fascinating experiment. I can easily see the challenge in finding subjects that lie flat onto the glass. Would it be easier with dried flowers or leafs?
The color version was more to my liking, but the monochrome is not far behind. I think you positioned the grasses nicely in the frame. |

It is very close, almost scary. But the monochrome is much better then the blue one.. |

To me, Stephen's crop calms the scene a bit, I struggled with the height of the image - I felt I had to choose between watching the clouds or the amazing monument. It was almost like two competing motifs. Cropping away some of the clouds brought the motif back to become one scene.
- On your question about noise - have you tried to go back to Filter/Camera Raw filter and use the noise filter there? |

Great shot Stephen - I feel the ceiling needs to be there, to calm the image. I tried to look at it with the ceiling cropped off, i.e. the upper 20% or so removed. Then, having done that, my eyes took me almost straight to the outside area. I had lost the feeling of space. So yes, the ceiling belongs in your picture. |
