26 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Tony! I agree - I think that I got carried away with the idea! Mar 14th
26 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, Stephen, for pointing that out! I did not really pay attention to them, but I can see their role now. Mar 9th
26 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, Terry - it is great to see how it looks like. I think that it works really well. I think I'll keep the sagging gutter for now, though, and try George's idea about darkening the light blue line first. Mar 8th
26 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, George! I like the idea of darkening the bright line - I think that this will be the next edit I'll try. Mar 8th
26 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, Bob! Terry did that for me already, and it does work fine! I think I'll keep the sagging gutter for now, though. I think that I'll try George's idea about darkening the light blue line first. Mar 8th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi George, this is certainly a beautiful study of textures, with the delicious contrasting colors. I think that the narrow vertical picture would cut that nice line of the yellow flowers at an unoptimal place. - I would suggest the same edits as Jose, or maybe try to clone off the frame? Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi Jose! To me, the image makes a fine travel document of an exotic colorful sight, although without the title it would be difficult to guess what the flower really consists of. - I think that you might also use it as material for a psychedelic flower image. Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi Terry! A beautiful Nature image! I think that the centered composition emphasizes the perfect symmetry of the bird and her reflection. I am not sure if you need the green area and the stick for a sense of place - My suggestion would be to crop them off, and maybe darken the background ever so slightly to show the hint of the waves more clearly instead? Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi Mark, I think that the strict symmetry works very well in the minimalistic image, with the shadows that create the tension. I can feel the bright light that is reflected from the white wall and shows every detail of the texture. I think that Terrys suggestions about the lamp would really make the image pop up. Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi Tony! I think that there is something timeless and calm in the image. I love the sense of depth in the image, and the way the sharp forest in the foreground gradually fades to the layers of blue mountains in the mists. Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Hi Bob, I think that your patience was well rewarded with the lovely lighting on the cliffs and the lighthouse that glows against the cooler tones of the sea, sky and the misty horizon. I love the balance of the lighthouse and the mass of the land on the left. I like Joses idea of the panoramic format, too. Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Jose! I guess that you are absolutely right! I got so fixed with the puzzle with the perspective that I felt I would need to show the arch that does not belong - this is something that probably does not open to the viewer at all, and the crop would certainly lead to a better image. Mar 7th
26 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Terry! I'll try the crop, or maybe paint over the bright line - that will calm probably help the eye to focus on the windows? Mar 5th

47 Mar 26 Reply Thank you so much, Al, for the lovely comment! Mar 24th
47 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Barbara! I think that this was, all in all, a most rewarding exercise. Mar 22nd
47 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, Ed! I enjoy so much of the different interpretations - it is like getting to see the all the stories hidden in the swirls. - I am glad that the you dont find the horizontal lines disturbing. Mar 19th
47 Mar 26 Reply Thank you so much, Doug, for the lovely comment! I love the dragon theory, as well as the pearl, and I can see them clearly now, too. Mar 18th
47 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Robert! - I think that the movie really is worth seeing, even merely as a visual experience. This year, they launched a restaured 4K version of the 40-year-old original that I think is circulating on all continents. Mar 17th
47 Mar 26 Comment Hi Al, must have been a once-in-a-lifetime-kind of an encounter! Your camera angle does make him look majestic. The way he/she is leaning in exactly the same angle as the slope of the rock makes a fantastic composition, and the tack-sharp image shows the textures of the fur and the rock surface beautifully. - It is amazing how big difference the selenium tint makes - thank you for the lesson! Mar 15th
47 Mar 26 Comment Hi Robert! I love the minimalistic image that is just full of impact. There is the stark contrast between the blazing white walls and the dramatic dark sky, and between the strict angular geometry of the building, the soft clouds and the decorative round lamp that gives an almost surreal feel. - The little dark triangle in the bottom left corner made me think of an instructor that was very particular about triangles in corners that she said tend to draw the eye from the center of the image. I dont know if cloning it off would be an improvement or not? Mar 15th
47 Mar 26 Comment Hi Doug! It is such a pleasure to look at the portrait! Scott is so perfectly at ease, smiling to the camera, and one can sense the contact between the model and the photographer. I also like the crop that shows enough of the surroundings to tell a story. - He gets separated quite nicely against the blurred background although the highlights are quite bright both on his sunlit side and the background. - It would be nice to see the color version, too. Mar 15th
47 Mar 26 Comment Hi Barbara, that must be an exceptional place to visit! I love the way you have used the soft light to convey the atmosphere. It guides the watcher from the open doorway into the room. - I think that the rather low-contrast approach and the finish with the texture and grain are perfect for the image. Mar 15th

54 Mar 26 Comment Thank you so much, Alan! It was her expression that made the image to grow in my mind, and I am so glad if it shows. The eyes absolutely need a touch of color, too. - I'll start training the hair trick right away. I have tried to get the effect in an opposite way by erasing a layer with thin brush setting s but that has not worked very well at all. I'll try to figure out the shadows, too, although I am not yet sure if there is a wall in the background to show them or if it is just thin air. They will certainly add a dimension. Mar 16th
54 Mar 26 Comment Thank you, Peggy! The hint of color is a lovely idea- it feels like she changes from an image on paper into a living person! Mar 15th
54 Mar 26 Reply Thanks, Brad, a great idea! I'll start playing with the chrystals next. Mar 12th
54 Mar 26 Reply Thanks, Brad, I know. I just that thought that the choice of an incongruos species - something that looks a lot like a wader in the middle of the arid desert - might make an additional layer to the story. I thought of using the idea by placing a tropical parrot in the Nordic fir tree forest. Mar 12th
54 Mar 26 Comment Hi Brad, I love the absolute golden hour calm in the glorious scene - the background with the lone pine is a compelling landscape image on its own right. I thought the bird as the pure white spirit of a visitor. I had to look up if there are egrets in Utah. As they seem to be resident birds, it would make sense to consider Maria's suggestion. Mar 8th
54 Mar 26 Comment Hi Alan, I so admire your masterful use of the transforming and perspective tools that make possible to create this kind of magic. What I love most is that triumphant way the performer flings the cards flying. - About "less is more": I don't think that there are any unnecessary elements in the image. Mar 8th
54 Mar 26 Comment Hi Peggy, like Maria, I feel strongly the tension and hidden threat by the huge wave that is hanging over the lovely calm soft pastel dream of smooth sailing.
- I started to think about variations that might emphasize this sense of imminent danger: what if you set the smoothly sailing boat behind a semitransparent layer of the dangerous wave? Or if the left upper corner of image started as pastel sky that would gradually transform into the huge wave where the unaware boat would be sailing into?

54 Mar 26 Comment Maria, I think that this is one of your loveliest images so far. Every element comes together perfectly to build the atmosphere, from the clever mirror images that create the square to the colors and tones, textures and lighting and the movement of the dancers and their swirling skirts. I cannot get enough of watching the warm light on the doorways and the cooler reflections on the wet street, and the light falling on the dancers. I think that the subtle vignette and frame are a perfect finish. Mar 8th
54 Mar 26 Reply Thank you, Maria! I am glad if the hair looks ok - I was deeply regretting the idea of the extra background layer that necessitated the selecting of the hair. I felt that it really would not be worth all the effort. - As much as I love Affinity, the selection tools suck, and this was one of the times that I seriously thought of changing software. Mar 8th
