26 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Jose! You are so right about that! Sep 11th
26 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Agnes! Sep 10th
26 Sep 24 Comment Hi Agnes, it is such a treat to get to see all these wonders from your trip! I think that the format is perfect for the image, and the whales are at just at the right spot. I feel that the increased contrast did good, but I wonder if a subtler touch just on the midtones would retain more of that lovely quality of light, and tried to add just a little more clarity to the whole image. What do you think? Sep 9th
26 Sep 24 Comment There is such a feeling of calmness and loneliness in the image. I love the shades of aqua against the yellows, browns and burnt orange, and the repeating horizontal lines give it an almost abstract quality. Sep 9th
26 Sep 24 Comment Hi Terry, I think that your camera angle was excellent. It shows just enough of the surroundings for the feeling of time and place. The broom leaning in the doorway looks like the worker has just laid it off his hand. I love the way you have played with the decreasing size of the wrenches and the perspective of their case. - I like the muted colors with the red accents in the original a lot, but BW conversion adds to the ageless feeling. Sep 9th
26 Sep 24 Reply Mervyn, I think that it is more about sensitivity for the mood of the image. The version with the white hands seems to evoke strong feelings of dislike and aversion in many people I have shown it - they say that they do see the intended message but they absolutely do not like the image. - I think that it is amazing, and a bit scary, how little things can totally change the mood and the message of an image! Sep 9th
26 Sep 24 Comment One can follow the curved leading lines right into the heart of the image and follow the bend of the river to that white mist in the horizon. The bright foreground and the darker gentle slopes in the background make a nice sense of depth. - I did not notice the slanting warehouse until Terry pointed it out, but straightening the walls would probably be a good idea. Sep 8th
26 Sep 24 Comment What a fine street photo, with the compelling main character in the center, riding towards the viewer. I think, like the others, that the busy background actually forms one unified element that frames the action - I think, too, that darkening the green fabric at the edge a bit would help to keep the eye on the center, Sep 8th
26 Sep 24 Comment This certainly is a tree with a presence and character that you show beautifully. I like the way the dramatic stormy sky frames the tree, and I think that the flip gives it extra power. - I agree with the others about the contrast issues. Sep 8th
26 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Terry! I am so glad that the idea opens for the viewer! When I wandered around the exhibition among the mannequins in their high fashion creations, this view with the bone-white hands reaching out as if to control the vulnerable shadow seemed to make a nice feministic statement. Sep 8th
26 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Bob ! I am so glad that the elements work! Sep 8th
26 Sep 24 Comment Thank you, Mervyn, I can perfectly see your point! I love the soft shadow myself, too, and the hands make a disturbing element that brings, I think, something cold and menacing and uncomfortable into the image. This time it was on purpose, to see if I could create a tension and make people wonder what it could mean. - Here is the lovely shadow by herself. Sep 8th

47 Sep 24 Comment Thank you, Ed! The more I look at the flipped image, the more I like it. It is as if the real dress moves away back to the past, leaving the spirit alive in the present. Sep 21st
47 Sep 24 Comment Hi Jeff, I think that the description may not match with the image?? - This is a lovely action street photo, with the glistening wet street and the soft bright mist of the water. I like the triangle of the man leaning forward, the hose and the spurt of water, framed by the window and the darker area in the pavement. I wonder if the face of the man might be a little less bright, more like in the original? Sep 11th
47 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Jeff! My strategy with the brightness worked very well because I actually meant the reflection to play the main role. - The dress from bygone days is just an empty shell but it carries the memory of its user. Sometimes, when the light is just right, you can almost see the woman who has worn it in her time come alive for a fleeting moment that I tried to capture.
I like the flipped image a lot, and here is also a little brighter version of the dress.

47 Sep 24 Reply Thank you very much , Trung! Sep 11th
47 Sep 24 Comment Trung, no wonder that you love to photograph such an event! A beautiful action shot with frozen movement and flying dust, full of intense control and concentration. I wonder if cropping just a little bit off the bottom and right edge might make it even more intense? Sep 9th
47 Sep 24 Comment Hi Ed, what a glorious eagle-eye view over the canyon, with the solitary walkers framed by the rocks and boulders. The amazing sharpness over the whole image has to do with the cell phone camera? You have done a terrific job in converting the very similar tones in the rocks into BW, but I think that I would actually prefer the color version. The subtle colors are so beautiful, and the walkers get more clearly separated from the background. - I wonder if increasing the white level and brightness in the whole image, and applying some burn locally on the rocks that frame the walkers might bring them out better? Or does it alter the mood? Sep 9th
47 Sep 24 Comment Hi Al, another awesome landscape that really seems to be waiting for the storm to break. There is an effective contrast between the dark sky and the background in shadow, the blazingly bright ice in the middle, and the foreground. Are they lit by the last of the sun before the clods roll over? - It would be interesting to see the color version, too. Sep 9th

54 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Peggy! Sep 23rd
54 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Maria! The look of theice surface is maybe the thing I like best in the image myself. You and Alan are right about the spectator, reduced brightness does make him more ghost-like. Sep 17th
54 Sep 24 Comment Hi Maria, I love the contrast between the gentle golden sunset and the risky affairs happening on the beach. I think that the elongated shapes of the kids add to the surreal feeling of the hunt, together with their tiny pastel nets and what is happening in the water. I think that the idea of the kids trying to catch the shark that is trying to catch the turtle is delightful, but as Brad says, the turtle may be a bit too small for the viewer to get the story. - I like AlanÂs suggestion of the sinister fin but that would make a slightly different storyline? Sep 15th
54 Sep 24 Comment Bruce, I can imagine the delight in constructing the story that comes together so beautifully. The ready-to-kiss princess is such a precious character, and I love the gentle humor that radiates from the image. - I think that Brad may have a point about the frog? Sep 15th
54 Sep 24 Comment Hi Brad, I think that this is such an enchanting concept. The color palette with the pure white of the lily-funnel and the foam, the grays and greens with the bright yellow pistil is perfect.- A suggestion from one with a limited skill repertoire: I wonder if just adding a layer of the waterfall portion of Orig. 3 in slightly reduced opacity upon the blurred middle portion, and erasing the layer from the flower would give the background enough detail and texture to bind it all together? Sep 15th
54 Sep 24 Comment Hi Alan, the body language of the lady in blue is pure indecision itself, with an element of curiosity to explore the options among the variety of the doors and many entrances and exits of the maze I admire the way you have modified the perspective of the individual doors to build this three-dimensional structure with genuine-looking lights and shadows and reflections. Sep 15th
54 Sep 24 Reply Peggy, my first thought of this shimmering dream was a young girl on the verge of womanhood, taking the first steps down the staircase with the vivid rainbow colors and darker undertones, towards a hidden destination. I think that the ICM staircase is a strong mysterious image in itself, and a perfect scene for the petal-girl and the magic. Sep 14th
54 Sep 24 Reply Thank you, Brad - I am so glad that the effects came together for the illusion, and I just love the idea of big foot observing the scene.
Sep 14th
54 Sep 24 Reply Thank you so much, Alan! I will work with the spirit. - You are probably right about the reflections, but with bright enough moon and a mirror-smooth surface ... Sep 11th
54 Sep 24 Reply Thank you so much, Melissa, for the lovely comment! This was one of the rare times when the elements seemed to come together and create an illusion all by themselves. Sep 8th
