Thank you, Terry! I think, too, that the renovation of the sofa and darkening the blanket made a difference. I will send it in and hope for the best! |

Hi Agnes, the image makes me smile: I love what looks like a rebel airplane leaving the group and taking its own path. You have captured a perfect moment, and I think that your crop makes the most of the composition.

Jose, they are fantastic! They are like miniature worlds within golden raindrops, and the second one slightly off focus gives depth to the image. The contrast between the rich gold and the aqua, blue and green in the background is deeply satisfying. - I wonder if it might be an idea to shape the blunt tip slightly to make them even more drop-like? |

She fills the frame very handsomely. The texture of her skin does not bother me either, especially as I think that she looks like someone who carries her wrinkles proudly. I think that her earring with the black pendant adds a perfect touch to the composition.

Your tern looks like a heraldic figure with the symmetric posture. She has her head tilted just perfectly to show her eyes and beak. I think that the square crop makes a perfect frame for her. A great shot! |

That must have been quite an adventure! - I like the original very much, too, but I think that the B&W version carries the drama and gloom of the weather more strongly with the dark tones and contrasts. The wake of the boat brings in a fine dynamic element, and the low camera angle makes most of the shore and the mountains that disappear in the clouds. |

Thank you, Tony! I think that the tighter crop would certainly be a good idea, although I think that she needs some room for her gaze in front of her. This time I am planning to submit a print, so I tried to get as close to 3:4 ratio as I could. |

Thank you, Bob! The blanket is a shade darker now, and I think that it does make the background more restful. |

Thank you, Jose! A very good point - I just cannot understand why I did not notice the dots myself! I made all the alterations so far in the version I posted in my reply to Bob. |

Thank you, Aavo! The girls such a wonderful character, and I was so lucky with the accidental shot that made the gold thread. |

Thank you, Maria! I was so excited when I got a glimpse of the girl in the middle of the crowd. I think, too, that the thread flows more naturally in the second image. |

Thank you, Brad! This is exactly how I felt about them. - I think I will try to do more work with the colors - I just saw a tutorial of color grading with the Curves tool that felt like a revelation. |

Hi Aavo, the tulips make a lovely riot of color, and the filter works just beautifully for them. I think that it's the people that are more problematic, as the filter distorts their features so, especially when they are viewed from a short distance on the screen. - I looked up some portraits by Monet in the internet, and I think that he actually smoothed the technique a bit for the faces (e.g. in "Woman with a Parasol"). - I wonder if it would be possible to use the filter with smaller opacity for the people, so that they would fit in the background but be easier to recognize. I made an experiment with the man: here he is through the Topaz filter in 60% opacity. What do you think? |

Hi Brad, I am enchanted! I think that the river flows through an ancient world from where the magic has escaped, leaving the fighters frozen into stone, melting gradually into the rock and the trees while the wilderness takes over. The people in the boat are explorers from another world and another time. The river world with the pale shades of green and blue is a wonderful background, and the petrified fighters are perfect for the story. The bright red dress and the oriental-type hats make a contrast to the rest of the image, and tell that the boat people have a different origin.
- I can think of a version where both the fighters were fused into the rock and the riverbed, and the trees would grow over and around them - that would give also an element of a timeline? P.S. Just out of curiosity, is the original statue about Hercules in one of his many battles? |

Hi Maria, I love it - another of your scenes that looks like it has always been there, serene and timeless. Your use of light is fantastic: I love the way the light seems to fall through the clouds and makes the yellow flowers glow between areas in subtle shadows. I cannot get enough of the horizon that blends into the clouds. The subtle warm color palette is just beautiful, binding everything together. - Thank you for describing the steps of making the magic so clearly! |

Hi Peggy, this is such a happy image, full of gentleness, caring, friendship and trust. The postures and expressions of the characters tell the story of the interaction, and the soft sunny hazy background just completes the mood perfectly. I love the way you have treated the birds face. - I started to think about the direction of the light - it is the kind of hazy day when the light falls evenly, but does it come more from behind the bird (if one looks at the squirrel)? I wonder if this side of the birdÂs neck and head could be slightly in the shadow? |
