Thanks, Mervyn! Here it is without the pole, and I also used the pinpointing brush for the sliver of the darker stone at the left edge that has been bothering me in the original crop. |

Hi Agnes, another lovely mountain scenery with a very special lighting! The warm tones of the sunlit tops and the cool tones in the shadows make a fine contrast. - I wonder if just a bit more clarity in the upper part of the image would bring some more mid-tone contrast on the beautiful mountain wall and the clouds ? - It would be nice to see the two original exposures that you combined so successfully. |

Hi Jose, I like the BW version, too, as well as Bob's edits. There is a huge feel of motion in the perspective, the converging lines and the play of light on the rails. The people in the spotlight at the end of the tunnel were a wonderful catch. |

Hi Mervyn, you have captured the atmosphere of the site beautifully, with a very good camera angle. -I wonder if there is a way to show the interesting bench against the wall more clearly, but I guess the tones are very similar? |

Hi Tony! I agree with Jose about the crop options: the head-and-shoulders image really takes the focus in his upward gaze and shows the lovely light falling on his back. A wider crop with the whole bird would show the beautiful background with the brown leaves repeating the colors of his plumage. |

Very fine bold colors that compliment to each other! I especially like the way the various shades of green come out in the leaves. I think that the hole in the leaf adds to the natural feel of the image, and also might contribute to the composition? This is an image to hang on your wall! |

Thank you, Jose! The vertical shape is a concrete pillar that must be a remnant from the time the island housed a small military base during World War 2 - there are many abandoned weird structures scattered around. I think that it might add to the story by giving a destination for the walkers, and maybe also an element of mystery? |

Thank you, Bob! I think that the tighter crop works very well, and the removal of that annoying bit of a darker rock is very good. The warmer tones look good, too, but I think that I may prefer the bluish version. |

Thank, Jeff! here it is with some more contrast and clarity in the foreground. I think this is a clear improvement, as was also the removal of the navigational leading mark that cleared the horizon - although for a second I felt awfully irresponsible when I erased the navigational aid from a waterway that is notorious for shipwrecks. |

Trung, I love it, too! It is full of explosive impact and rage, with the perfect freeze of the surf against the sharp angular rocks. I agree with Dom about the crop: a panorama-like format might make it even more impressive. |

Hi Al, I love the drama of the moody scene, too, with the beautiful light. I think that the composition that shows a lot of the impressive sky, with the dark mountains and the sharp shards of the glacier surface at the bottom, is an excellent choice. - I experimented by putting the image through Topaz Denoise with a mask for just the grainy area in the clouds - what do you think? |

Hi Dom, what an impressive image! It looks like the hammer-wielding thunder god of the viking mythology could appear in the scene any minute. As Ed says, the fine tonal range brings the various strata of the clouds out beautifully. The saucer-like cloud must be a rare sight! - Our camera club has "Clouds" as this month's theme, and I wish I had something like this to show! |

Hi Ed, I think that you have produced a fine tribute to the historic site - there is a palpable feeling of calmness and deference in the image. I think that the contrast in the high-key scene framed by the dark vignette carries your message in a beautiful way, and the camera angle is perfect! |

Thank you, Ed - you are so right! I have several frames of the scene but in each, the blasted pole is in the way, either cutting the throat of the camera man, or piercing his head. I think that this one was the least disturbing! The tighter crop certainly brings the small convoy out better, but I feel that the scenery in front of them may add to the sense of adventure? |

Thank you very much, Maria! I think that preservation of the original shadows is the answer for many things that do not feel quite right in the scene. I did a rough edit on the final image and could see the difference right away. I'll start from scratch and try again! |

It is such a strong image - I have come back to it many times trying to figure out what excactly it is in the elements and their combination that creates the effect. - BFG, short for Big Friendly Giant, is one of the delightful fantasy novels for children by the British author Roald Dahl, from 1982. Adult readers catch many levels beyond the adventure story itself, and the way the author plays with words is quite unique. I think that you might enjoy the book! |

Hi Christian, this is pure Star Trek material! The planet surface is very convincing, as is the asteroid, and the man beckoning the space ship is just perfect, with his expression and body language. I love the way his bright clothes and warm skin color contrast with the colder tones of deep space. - I wonder if you would like to play with the place of the spaceship - could it perhaps be approaching from behind of the asteroid so that it would not cover the fine element? I think that the image might also work without the spaceship, just a little different story from the last frontier? |

Brad, this is lovely! The way the backlit petals and leaves glow is exquisite. I think that you have reached the essence of the sunflower, and the calm content horse seems to fully appreciate it, as you say. I think that the background with the mountains blending in the blue textures is perfect for the image. |

Alan, you have created a haunting psychological thriller that has come into my dreams. The context makes the expression of the fleeing girl look absolutely terrified, and the scowl of the man in pursuit is full of menace. I can hear the thump of the girlÂs feet on the stones of the empty palace-like hall that adds to the atmosphere. The use of light is most effective. - This could be a scene in "BFG" where Sophie flees from the unfriendly giants, but I see it as a dream - or a nightmare - with deeper psychological undercurrents. I think that this is what "emotional impact" is all about! |

Hi Aavo, I think that the image works very well: I find it visually pleasing and balanced, with a nice unexpected twist. The color palette of the red and beige emphasizes the simplicity of the composition. I think that the cat in the corner is the key figure. There is room for many delicious interpretations - my new Visual Thinking Strategy study group would love to start analyzing! |

Hi, what an interesting discussion! - I love your nymph - she is an adolescent version of Thumbelina emerging from the tulip blossom. I think that the Glow filter works very well to give her this ethereal luminous quality. I wonder if the tulip petal could retain more of its subtle natural structure so that the miracle would be in the birth of the nymph? |
