15 Aug 22 Comment Thank you, Joan! The oyster shell is a lovely idea! Aug 23rd
15 Aug 22 Comment Hi Rick, a fine portrait of the duo with their exquisite structures and beautiful hues of pink, and the amazing depth of field. It conveys perfectly the feeling of walking in the garden after rain. I like both the original and the framed version. In the framed one, I feel that the bright purple parts of other flowers at the right edge may draw the eye a bit, I wonder about cloning them off, too, and maybe darkening the cloned greens slightly? 15 Aug 22 Comment Hi Joan! Our photo club has a theme "Upwards" for the summer, and I would be proud to submit an image like this one. Like Rick, I think that the sky, the sun star and the tilt do give it a wonderful impact. - Is there a small dust speck in the upper right corner? I tried to remove it, and opened the shadows just a little and added slightly the contrast - what do you think? Aug 12th
15 Aug 22 Comment Hi Linda, a lovely idea! As Rick says, it is about diversity, and also about caring and human contact. I love the way your and your mothers finger are entwined. I was wondering if it would work also as a tighter square crop, with this gorgeous turquoise nail in the center? The crop would also take care of the distractions. What do you think? Aug 12th
15 Aug 22 Comment Thank you, Rick, I am glad that this works! I know that the monochrome is not as good but I think I have woven so many stories round it that there is a personal bias. Aug 12th

47 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Al - I have been planning to do a new series on the ornament, I love the idea so! Rock environment is a great idea - I already have a couple of possible sites in mind. Aug 16th
47 Aug 22 Comment Hi Gangadeep! A very lucky shot to catch the pack together in perfect focus, acting in such natural way, with the wary guardians on watch and the playful youngsters. I agree with Ed about the tree, without it all the attention goes the animals against the misty background. - It would be very Interesting to hear more about how the image was taken, both about the technical issues and the situation. Aug 15th
47 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Ed, we share the love of the book! Aug 15th
47 Aug 22 Comment Thank you, Robert! I like the monochrome version myself, too! Aug 14th
47 Aug 22 Reply Hi Robert, I think that you are actually very good about that - much ahead of me, anyway, who constantly gets lost spinning stories and hidden meanings that don't open to others. Aug 12th
47 Aug 22 Comment Hi Al, a fine balanced composition of the town framed by the mountains and the sea. I think that your title is perfect: there is a feeling that the sea may show its power at any time (there are some waves already), and the town had better keep that in mind. The dramatic sky adds to the atmosphere. Aug 11th
47 Aug 22 Comment Hi Jeff, a lovely image. You caught a special behind-the-scene moment of calm intensive concentration. The light falls on the dancer beautifully, showing her against the dark background, and the triangular shapes in the composition work so well. I think black-and-white presentation is perfect for this image and elevates it to a new level. Aug 11th
47 Aug 22 Comment Ed, this is a lovely story beautifully told. I think that both the original images are very good and make a wonderful combination. The expression and posture of the sailor are perfect, you can see the longing in his face. I think I would like to make his beloved even more ethereal and transparent, to show clearly that she is just a dream, and maybe make her face and arms gradually appear from the mist??- I think that the tone and the white vignette are absolutely right for the image. I really love it. Aug 11th
47 Aug 22 Comment Hi Robert, again one of the delightful ideas you pick up so readily - I can imagine the moment you saw the stay-or-leave messages in the scene. It is a bit difficult for the uninformed viewer to figure it out, however, as the arm on the left sort of disappears in the background details. I think that reducing brightness in the left edge might help a bit, and maybe removing some details in the wall round the arm? - I think that the tighter crop that Jeff suggested, with the vignette, would make a lovely image of the "stay" part of the massage. Aug 11th
47 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Jeff! I made a version with the reduced highlights, and it does look good. too! It is a wonder how much such little change can do! Aug 11th

54 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Alan! I am very happy with the latest version! Aug 16th
54 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Aavo! I see your point about the smaller light, removing it would make sense lighting-wise. However, I feel that the way it seems to be drifting into the net adds to the story? Aug 14th
54 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Peggy! About the net: I actually just selected a part of the image where the net was showing against the clear sky, took off the saturation of the blues and increased their lightness, and ended up with a black net on white background. Then played with levels, contrast, clarity and brightness for maximum contrast, and added one low-opacity layer behind and another one in front of the fisherman, and erased the unnecessary bits. - There must be a better and less cumbersome way to do that, but I think it worked ok... Aug 14th
54 Aug 22 Comment Hi Alan, a happy fairytale. The fence with the bright colors is a great centerpiece that set the mood. I like Brad's and Maria's suggestions of the softer shadows. Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Comment Hi Maria, I think that Brad's comments are excellent, but I do love the story of the cormorant. I wonder what a bird would really look like balancing on the board - I wonder if you could tilt him in slightly straighter position, or leaning to left, like the original surfer? I was also thinking about another option of placing the frame and the perspective: what would it look like with the frame facing more directly the viewer, and the wave throwing the surfer straight towards him through the frame? I think that there are so many options in this wonderful image. Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Comment Hi Aavo, a hilarious insight in the challenges of sisterhood. I can very well see my own grandchildren in their places, at certain moments! The expressions and postures of the kids suit perfectly to the story. Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Reply Thank you, Maria for the great tips! I think that darkening the side of the fisherman did the trick with the lighting - he looks much more natural part of the scene now. I reduced the clarity and structure of the stones, too, and took down the brightness as Brad suggested, and really like the result. Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Reply Thank you very much, Brad! The darker version works beautifully, and I have a series of wild variations with the different monotones. I made these changes + those that Maria suggested, and I think that the image is a lot better now. Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Comment Hi Peggy! I love the way you have built an underwater-like world with the light filtering on the wall in the rich hues of turquoise and orange, and the structures and shadows that give it the depth. The transport is most intriguing, and I think that the expression on the new face is perfect: I can hear him tell that this is the way to go! Aug 12th
54 Aug 22 Reply Thanks, Brad, I am glad if you think it might work! - Affinity Photo is the Photoshop-equivalent software I am using - very much the same principles. Aug 9th
54 Aug 22 Comment Hi Brad, this is lovely. The colors are so beautiful. The position and posture of the moth are perfect: he seems to be approaching very carefully but just cannot resist the attraction. - I wonder about adding some glow round the flame? I tried to add a subtle point live lighting layer in Affinity photo in a warm yellow-orange tone on the flame - it is very clumsily done but I hope it shows the idea? Aug 9th
