This image is actually a blend of two images taken that day with a lot of grass removal. The colors are not too far off the original (at least I don't think so) I just tried to enhance them and remove the green to make it a more monotone image. I have attached my originals in the comments above so everyone can take a look. The originals don't have any color adjustments to them. They are as the camera took them with auto white balance. |

Hi Haru, yes this is a very popular place and the natural colors are not that far off of this image. I tried to be subtle with my color change because I did not want to make it too un-natural looking. I do think the greens need toning down though.

I agree. The blacks seem a bit washed out. I darkened the blacks and toned down the greens even more. Thank for pointing that out. |

Here is original 2. The colors were very magenta/purple to begin with I was just trying to enhance it a bit more. Erin Babnik was who inspired me to look at color as well. |

Thank you Robert. I had reduced the luminosity of the trees but I agree with you they are too bright. I went back and darkened them with dodge and burn. I think it looks better. I have attached the original. This image is actually a blend of two images that morning, one had clouds and one had the sun on the mountain. then I inverted the blend to remove all the tall green grass comping up from the the water as I found it distracting. |

Hi Gloria
I think everyone has captured my thoughts. I have nothing additional to add. I really like what Robert has done and I agree with Haru that I would like to see a bit more foreground. Have fun in Rome and bring us more photos! |

Hi Dan
I love your creativity and how you always strive to create something that is different and not something anyone has seen before. This image made me wonder how the elk got there and why it was there etc. You definitely achieved an image that makes the viewer look and engage. I think it could work and I like the idea of something unusual like the elk in the room. You have the shadow correct for the elk but I do think the lighting in the room does not match the elk and this is why it feels a little off to the viewer. The ceiling of the room is very bright yet the body of the elk has only a streak of highlight. I think Robert is right about the eyes as well. With the elk looking at the light source they should be brighter and have a catch light perhaps. I have always found compositing very difficult especially when it comes to matching the light. I do love the idea and it definitely made me engage with this image. |

Wow Bob, this is an interesting image. I would have never thought to frame it in this way. I think others have captured most of the areas for improvement. I agree with you that if the balcony is the main subject, cropping the bottom window out would help to emphasize that. The way it is now the window is what my eye goes to most. Adjusting the color and straightening as Robert and Dan suggested will also benefit the image. Sorry I don't have anything else to add. |

Hi Robert
There are some really beautiful layers in this image. To answer your questions. I don't mind the grain in the sky because it contributes to the atmosphere but I am distracted by the dark vertical rainy bursts that I think you have brought out. To me they distract from the mountain and the flow of the beautiful layers. I would not make the mountain "pop" any more that it is already because again that would be counter to the atmospheric layers that are so beautiful. I see what you mean by having the mountain sitting high but the balance of the image is off(in my opinion). To me the light needs to balance the dark in the image and the dark is a bit too heavy. When I looked at the crop with a focus on balancing the image it puts the bottom of that rock right on the edge which makes it even more prominent so I think it would benefit from cloning it out. I have attached my crop suggestion. I always enjoy your images Robert and this is another great one. |

Hi Haru
I personally like the portrait version but would like to see more at the top of the image. I think this could have been done by tilting the camera up a little.
I really like the colors in the image and way you have brought them out. Robert has done an excellent job of enhancing them even further. This is one of my favorites of all your images so far. I know it is hard to take a woodland image that is uncluttered and I have not been able to take one that I like of my own so far. You created a wonderful image here. |
