Hi Bob
When I viewed this image I saw the cross as the subject so I didn't think about the valley much (not until I read your description. I always look at the image first and get my impressions before reading the description.) My thoughts were about decreasing the light in the background and increasing the exposure and texture on the cross. It is a very nice image. Do you happen to have an image of the valley? I would like to see that too. |

Hi Gloria
Thank you for sharing this image and the connection you have with the location. You have portrayed how the past has blended with the present.
Everyone has some good suggestions. I gave it a try as well. Cloning the lights out is not as easy as one might think. They illuminate the steps and a statue making it difficult to remove every trace of them. I gave it a try but it definitely is not perfect so maybe Haru's solution of decreasing their brightness might be a better option. I understand what you are saying about the bended knee. Darkening the sky a touch definitely does help though. |

Hi Dan
I definitely get the ominous feel from the image which I think comes from not knowing just what is going on in the background and the coloring. My eye is begging for some sun rays which I know doesn't happen from a wide open aperture. I tried adding some but I am not sure I like it. I think it takes away from the ominous feel. I also found the bright colored dots distracting so I removed them. I don't think I can help you improve it much. It is a cool photo just as you have posted. |

Hi Robert
My thoughts mirrored Dan's almost exactly regarding the edit. My edit is attached. It may be a bit heavier handed than what you would do. I do really like this image I find it calming and relaxing to view. |

Hi Haru
This is a beautiful scene! I think there needs to be more separation of the snow flower from the background and Dan's suggestion would probably create that. I think Bob's edit tries to achieve this as well. I would also create an image with the icicles as the subject. They are beautiful enough to be a subject in a separate photo. |

No, just really busy with work and family around Easter this year making me late. I made them moon the size I remember seeing it which is always larger that it appears in my photos. Maybe I went overboard. I chose the vertical aspect ratio because I wanted the moon to balance the bale and to remove what wasn't needed in the image. The moon is at an angle to the bale of a later image that I did take in vertical aspect ratio zoomed in. I liked the angle opposite the bale. The warm coloring came from me trying to bring out the fall colors in the trees at the base of the hills. It wasn't as dark as this image appears. The Sun was just setting behind me (see attached image). I will try a cooler tone and see if that may look better. Thank you so much for the suggestions. |
