Hi Gloria
I have just begun using ND filters and they are fun. They do make for long exposures though. I found with this image the light was changing so quickly that I got much fewer images. Normally over the time the sun is setting I get several images and can choose which light I like best but with the long exposures there are much fewer to choose from. |

Hi Robert.
Thank you. I think your comments are right on point. It is a bit too saturated and the right side is a bit of a problem. |

Focusing on the reflection is a good idea and something I don't do enough. I'll give that a try and possibly get a really good second image from this one. Thanks Bob. |

I think your point about the colors all being too similar is right on the mark. There is not enough of a difference in the color of the building and the sky. I will definitely play around with this to see if I can get more contrast in the colors. I see what you mean about the building on the right. I'm not sure I like the crop as much but the brightness and lack of clouds on that side definitely are a problem. |

Thank you Dan. I plan to play around a lot more with the ND filters. |

Hi Dan
I really admire your seascapes. You have an ability to always have an interesting foreground. The foreground is wonderful with really interesting detail. I do find it steals the show a little too much in this situation so it may benefit from cropping a very small amount of it off at the bottom to allow the eye to explore the rest of the scene. As already mentioned the sky is a bit too dark. It is the light blue reflection in the water at the horizon that makes this the most evident to me. The sky would have had to be much brighter for this type of reflection. I think it would benefit from lightening the sky and/or darkening that reflection. |

Hi Robert
I am sorry to be so late to comment. I have had a crazy couple of weeks at work. I think your latest edit portrays more mood as you were wanting. I read all comments after I took a look at the image and my suggestions would be to darken the sky a bit which you have done but I would also crop a bit differently and clone in more colored foreground for balance. I'm not sure if it gets you closer to the mood you are looking for thought |

I think the lens failed you in this situation. The sky is too distracting and the bird does not look sharp. It is always good to experiment though. |

I really love the dreamy look on this rose. I have the lensbaby composer pro with a few lens options but have not used them in a landscape situation. I might give it a try sometime though. |

Hi Gloria
This is a lovely sunset but my eye does not settle on a subject. Did you want the sun, the boat or the bird to be the main subject? I see the boat on the left as the main subject with the bird as a secondary subject so I think the image would have benefited from framing slightly to the right with the boat closer to the the rule of thirds line. Also cropping to have the bird at the diagonal to the boat would add some balance. As mentioned it could use some clean up to simplify the image as well. Robert A has covered what might be the issue with the sharpness really well. I envy all the beautiful sunsets you see on a regular basis. Just beautiful. |

Hi Haru
For me the subject is the fern. I tried making the leaves the subject but there is not enough detail and/or the image is not close enough to make them the prominent part of the image. I would remove the distractions as mentioned and darken the front leaves making the fern the main subject. With both the fern and the leaves highlighted there it appears to have too much to look at. That is just my opinion though. |

Hi Kate
Welcome, so glad you have joined us. I am sorry to be so late commenting on your image. I have been very busy with work this week. What a great opportunity to experience these wonderful animals so close and intimate. I think that simple is sometimes best. I really like Robert A's crop and developing of the image. I brings your attention to the eyes and removes the distracting color behind the Gorilla. I understand your comment regarding the brown eyes and maybe you could darken the background, crop like Bob's and still get a result that provides a similar result while maintaining the color. |
