Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
96 Jul 22 Comment Hi Bob
When looking at the image, my thoughts went into another direction. I thought that the foreground was the subject of the image so my I thought a portrait crop might help to emphasize the foreground. I did not have your sky to play around with so I chose one with similar coloring to the reflected sky in the foreground. I agree with Dan re the noise in the sky of your image and Haru re there being too much purple cast in your image. Looking at Haru's version, the colors really blend well the way he has edited the image. He has removed the blue almost entirely to focus on the details in the sand. I think I like his edit better than mine but I am including mine for comparison anyway.

96 Jul 22 Comment Thank youfor your feedback Haru, I appreciate it. I have shown this image to a few people since I sent it in. It appears that people either love it or hate it. This effect is experimentation for me. I'm not sure this image is one that I can make anything out of other than an interesting story. Jul 10th
96 Jul 22 Comment Hi Gloria. This sunset is breathtaking. With regards to taking handheld images in lower light I think you did the right thing. I always play around a little to see how steady my hand is when handholding so I have an idea of how fast my shutter speed needs to be to get a crisp image. I would guess you could have gone down to 1/125 or 1/100 and still had a sharp image. Then you could lower the iso a little more. Never the less, this is a fantastic image. I agree with Haru that your could crop some off the bottom and it may benefit from having the sun a little more to the left. I used content aware fill to add a little to the right so you can see what I mean. Gorgeous image, I would print it on metallic paper it will show the luminance of the sunset. Jul 10th
96 Jul 22 Comment Hi Dan
I really love this image! My suggestion would be to increase the exposure of the hand a little. I like Haru's suggestion of the shadow but I would the shadow more subtle. This is a fun image.

96 Jul 22 Comment Hi Robert. Another cool image from the volcano. It definately shows power. I would take it into photoshop, expand the canvas and use content aware fill so that you could crop it the way you want to. I love the colors in this image and it may benefit from brightening areas of the smoke. I took a crack at it by increasing highlights and painting it in with the brush in lightroom. I might have gone a little far as is usually my M.O. Regarding the noise, sometimes smoke looks grainy itself so I don't think a little noise is a problem and in fact in this digital age it is often added for effect. I wouldn't worry about the bit of grain in the image. Jul 10th
96 Jul 22 Comment Hi Haru
I like the color version better but I think the blossoms don't stand out well enough. I would adjust the whites and highlights to make them pop more. I really like Robert's crop for us westerners who don't have as much of an emotional response the the fact that the tree is really old and cared for. For you though the supports are as much a part of the message as the blossoms themselves so I would try to find a way to bring that into the image. Possibly by taking them out of the shadows. You might want to create two version one for us and one for you, each with a different focus.
