Hi Robert
Your thoughts are spot on. It might have been better if I had originally had the mountain in mind for the background, then I might have posed Kaitlyn differently. I always experiment and sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't. Never the less I always learn something which will make my next photo better.
Thanks for the insight. I always enjoy hearing your thoughts. I might redo this one with a different pose I have if it will blend OK. |

Hey Bob
This a great story telling type of image. The viewer does indeed wonder what the two are talking about. Makes me wan to sneak up and eavesdrop :). Since the colors are so muted and not really necessary to the story, I wondered how it would look in black and white. I gave it a quick try. I'm not sure if it is better or not. You be the judge. |

Hi Emily
This image had a great leading line of the dock and really nice color. I really like how your images show depth with leading lines and life as it is wherever you are. With this image I am left wondering what the subject of the image is? I think the intent was the larger boat pointing toward the viewer at the end of the dock but I find it is too soft to be the subject. Increasing the f stop to 8 or 11 would have given a better depth of field so that the subject would have been sharp. If you were hand held and needed a shutter speed of 125 and had to increase the ISO, Sony cameras usually handle that well and/or the noise could be cleaned up in post if necessary. |

Hi Robert
Another interesting image with a lonely tree. I love how you compose to show the one lonely tree. I agree with the other comments about the saturation. While this worked really well on some of your other canyon images it removes the focus on the tree in this case. I tried editing your original to emphasize the tree itself and it is not easy to isolate it from the background. What I found worked was to use the radiant circle in Lightroom and then mask using luminance adjusting the mask to select non-luminance (ie the tree). I then moved the black slider to the left to darken the tree. You may have a better way but this is what I found worked. Luminance masking in photoshop would probably work as well. I love the textures in this image and I never tire of your canyon images. |

Hi Haru! Welcome to the group.
I really love what you have done with the colors of the green foliage. I creates a nice depth to the image. I understand why you cropped the way you have but to me it feels like the water has no where to go without that lower right hand corner. I would put it back in and darken it with a gradient so it is not so white. I would also decrease the highlights at the bottom of the waterfall. This is such a beautiful image. I love the feeling of serenity I experience when I look at it. |

Hi Dan
When I look at this image it makes me feel sad which I think is the intent of the image. The lonely bee is dying alone so the title is fitting. It took me a minute to figure out what it was when I first looked at the image. I believe it portrays to the viewer the feeling you intended so my only suggestion would be to focus stack to have more of the bee in focus so that it would more easily identifiable. |

Hi Dan
I struggle with any kind of posing to make it look natural and it may be showing somewhat in this image. I had a hard time directing Kaitlyn so that she looked natural and it may be due to what Stephen eluded to. Most women would not go wading in a red dress. I will keep that in mind when I compose my next shot. As you have pointed out, the placement of her is fine but the pose/wardrobe may not fit.

Hi Haru. Welcome to group 96, I'm glad to have you join us! I see what you mean regarding the disconnect. Stephen also mentions that feeling. I am going to keep that in mind going forward with images like this.
Thanks! |

Hi Stephen
The dress was purchased very inexpensively on amazon just for this image. We chose red because it will contrast most landscape colors. I see what you mean re the dress and most women don't wade into the water with a dress on so I will keep this in the back of my mind. For my next image I will look to have the person standing or doing something that seems to be more likely. Thanks for the feedback, its helpful. |
