I always struggle with replacing a sky because it is not the what I saw when I was there. For me to do it, the sky has to look very bare. This one is bare but it does have some nice color. Sometimes simple is better but I haven't decided for sure which I like better. I may never be able to decide LOL.

I did not notice that the angle of the clouds matched the Saddledome but you are right. I see what you mean regarding the bare patch in the top left. I will try to pull the sky to the left a bit and see how it looks. I will also play with the crop, it might get rid of some the distracting mess of the lower end of the Saddledome.

I really appreciate your ideas.

I usually try to create all my images from what I actually saw so it is not natural for me to replace the sky but I thought I would give it a try. I did darken the area underneath the Saddledome (it is really messylooking). I struggled with how much to darken that area. I will try going a bit darker.

Hmmm not sure how to approach the city of Calgary....

Like Robert I played around with this image. I really like how the ferns draw your eye into the frame. Great idea to flip the clovers over to see the purple underside. I found that three of the purple clovers that were close to the edges drew my eye out of the frame. I struggled with whether the ferns were to bright or not. I think they are, but just a bit. I don't think I would have cut off the tips of the ferns but I can't really say without being able to compare the image with them. The color palette is very pleasing with the yellow/pink or purple/green complementary colors. It is an enjoyable image to view. I will have to take the lead from you the next time I'm out. I do tend to look for the vast wide open landscape images.

96 Jul 21 Comment Hi Bob
Everyone else had said exactly what I was thinking. The directional light from the original image doesn't match the placement of the moon. I would try to remove the light on the left side rock. I also yearn for more detail in that lovely moon and I think that we should be able to see the bottom half. If it was a sun then it would be different. For me we should be able to see bottom half of the moon.

This is a really creative image and I like the mood. I get kind of an eerie feeling from it. Maybe a silhouette of a tiny alien on the top of the right rock, or maybe that is going to far ;)

Great image I enjoy looking at it.

I really love what you have done with the colors in this image. I agree with Dan. It is not overdone. I agree with you Robert that it would look better with more to fill in the bottom left but I think it needs to be done so that the repetition is not as obvious. Without the extra as you have added it the eye is drawn right out the bottom of the image. With the extra layers added it brings your eye back to explore some more. It can be done with some patience in photoshop. You would have to rotate and warp the second/third layers until the lines blended more seamlessly. They would have to be at the same angle. I have done a quick try with one extra layer. As Dan said, don't get discouraged, with your creativity and eye for composition you will make things work the way you want. Dan is also right about doing it for yourself. Feedback from others is just opinion, use it or reject it based on what you want to create.

96 Jul 21 Comment Hi Emily

I really like the leading lines in this image. As Robert mentioned the sun coming through the grates competes with the leading lines of the tracks and buildings. When I took a look at the developing of this image I thought that deepening the blacks was a good idea as well. However I thought that putting the light on in the nearest light that was dark added another leading line by way of the lights. I did this by using a radial circle then increased the exposure to the maximum then duplicating it and adjusting until I thought the brightness was close. I made them both the size of the brightest part of the light. Then I added another larger radial circle just a little bigger than the light itself and increased the exposure on that one only enough to make it look like the glow of the light. It is important to use the radial filter with 100% feathering. I also adjusted the temp and tint on the circles to try to match the color of the other lights.

Other things to consider when taking the image. If this was handheld a shutter speed of 1/250 should be fast enough to create a sharp image. Decreasing the shutter speed and changing the aperture to F8 or f11 would ensure you had a really crisp focused image from front to back.

It is a really nice image that pulls your eyes right down the tracks. Great composition.
