Hi Cheryl, I've been to this spot, although only mid-day when the light was really not worth a shot. You've clearly found better conditions. I agree with Dan that the sky seem a little blown out to me. My impression is you have the lake color exactly right though - that is at least how I remember it.
If you are headed back there, I wonder if it is not worth playing with the composition a bit. The lake is a wonderful leading line, but there isn't a strong reward for following it. It seems like there is some nice light on the peak hiding behind the tree at the right - I wonder if a slightly different position couldn't utilize that more? Of course at sunrise light will be different so it could lend itself to a different composition. I look forward to what you get in the sunrise shot. I also hope you will have time for sunrise/sunset at some of the other lakes up and down the parkway - love to see whatever you get there too. Banff to Jasper is a really beautiful region! |

Hi Emily, I love the geometric patterns you have found here. I'd agree with Gerard and Cheryl that cropping tighter helps emphasize that. I think the right crop also puts your vanishing point right on the thirds which can't hurt. Once again, you have a great eye to find interesting shots like this! |

Hi Dan, you've made an old rusty thing into quite a piece of art. The colors you've found in the oxidation are great, and I think you've balanced the light - foreground/background, and across the foreground - really well. I wonder if you couldn't get the colors on the car to pop even a little further if you desaturated the background somewhat. Clearly a lot of work blending things together, but a very nice image as the result. |

Thanks Dan. A couple of decades ago I used to sit for hours flipping through Muench's books. I think his near/far approach is not natural to me, but I realize I should try it more.
The film from the whole trip is at the Lab. I have my fingers crossed...
