24 Nov 20 Comment Thorro,

Good seeing, even on a two lane road it could be too easy to drive on by. Backlit subjects are not easy to portray, and there is a lot of bright brush in this scene that compete with the flags. Other things to think about for post proc this image..... 1) Color select on the sky, and reduce its luminosity, 2) do a manual or object select on the flags so you could bring the brush and the flags up in color intensity separately and reduce that competition. Lastly, I would consider crop in from the left but preserve that post on the horizon, it will give the flags a greater share of the area in the image frame. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

24 Nov 20 Comment Laura,

Good slice of life as I call them. Jim's comment on getting down on subject's level is a good one. I do teaching sessions for our club and I tell them (like most other photo teachers do) "work the scene." In this case you could take 25 images with your iPhone each one from a different position , up, down , left , right, closer, further, etc, with the intent that when you get home, 24 will go in the trash and the 1 remaining you will show us!! Have a nice Thanksgiving.

24 Nov 20 Comment Sam, Very nice image w good composition. The outlining here is necessary given the high key, high contrast presentation.

24 Nov 20 Comment Steve,

This is a thought provoking image. I like the approach Jim and Thorro have taken with the room on the left to bring up some detail in the shadow. I would consider putting some contrast into the scene through the doorway into the stairwell. Perhaps darken the sky light in the upper right hand corner leaving the sunspot on the floor as the single most bright spot in the image. I would think there is more texture in that bright spot as well. If you want to get into the post-process game there are a lot of options out there. The PS elements is a good one. If you want to dabble for free, consider Darktable. It is very powerful (more so than elements), but the user interface is not as nice as Photoshop. Others at the Elements price point are Luminar and ON1.

24 Nov 20 Comment Jim,

I like what you have done here. My suggestions are re the sky. Bald sky is not helping you. Not sure what you can do except try a sky replacement. Looks like it could be a tough job. Also I would crop up from the bottom. I like the gold star in the B/W version better. Sorry about the late commenting, but this month has been a bear!! I did two photo classes for the club and my wife and I brought our grand daughter home from college in western NY, getting back here late yesterday. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
