24 May 20 Reply Jim, I played around a bit more and found what I wanted. I primarily use PS 6, but recently broke down and signed up for the Adobe subscr. Am now learning PS2020. PS6 had some warp options but were not flexible enough. In the PS20 there is a warp option that lets one split the image and warp only part of it. In the posted example I set the boundary just to the left of the tree branches and the warped the LH side to straighten the pillar. However, there are things I still need to learn about this. Seems that in some early attempts the layer masks did not warp in sync with the bkgd. Also when I selected all layers the warp did not want to activate. I'm not sure exactly how I got things to work to give the image that is attached but I will play some more and figure it out. May 25th
24 May 20 Comment Jim,

I like what you are trying to accomplish. However, I would like to keep the trunk in frame for the upper RH tree. I believe that PS has a transform that would let me hold the RH edge solid while tilting the LH edge. I have not learned that yet. Maybe I will have time in the next few weeks to learn about it and try that. If so, you will see it here!!!

24 May 20 Comment Jim,

At this point I prefer the B&W, however, I think the color has more potential. The blue tone in the lower half is too heavy for me compared to the warm upper half. It appears to me that it is a flash low and to the left. It tends to take away from the warmth of red table and chairs and tile!! Also the light is sufficiently low to cast the seat into shadow. I am a color fanatic and so I would get a gel filter for the flash and warm up the bottom. I would also raise the light to get good color in the seat. Years ago one could obtain sample packs of gel filters from the stage suppliers for cheap money, today it will run about $5. I made a housing with matte board scraps and tape that fit over my flash heads and hold such gels (about 1 x 3 inch in size). I can send a pic if anyone is interested. If you google gel filters you should get a bunch of hits. Stage Spot has some interesting stuff. There are many others. I would also experiment with doing a vertical in thislocation. I would try to keep the clock, the RH chair completely in, and get the base of the table into the image. I got to think the floor must have some good red in it.

24 May 20 Comment Rajdeep,

This is what I call a "slice of life"!! I love the image. To me it speaks of color, excitement, and I really like the expression of the boy indicated by Jim. For me I needed to amp up the colors some. To do that I used the adj brush in ACR to darken and saturate the shields held by the two guys in the center. I had to brighten their faces and tunics. I had to reduce the exposure on the gold sparkles on the guy's skirt on the left. Then a crop to a square (maybe not perfect) to align the boy with the two beat upon guys makes for a very strong composition. I wanted to keep the left stick guy in the pic with his strong arms whacking the guy with the purple shield. There is so much here, but I do not have time to go on. If you had other images taken in the same time frame it would be interesting to discuss. If the lady just to the right and now out of the image were just further off there might be other crops that could be just as interesting.

24 May 20 Comment Donna,

Great setup to play with. I like how you use the defocussed background to emphasize the image in the ball. Jim's crop helps to eliminate a lot of negative space and concentrate attention to the subject. The image does challenge me however, "and so the opportunity to play". The intense highlight on the upper left part of the orb, most likely from a sky-light or other window, and its focussed point below and to the right of the orb, must go. I don't think it can be done well in post processing. Perhaps some black cloth to shield the direct rays of light or maybe some application of a polarizing filter. Off-hand I do not have an answer, but if I happen upon a crystal ball I will play. If you do some further experimentation let me know what you learn.

24 May 20 Comment Sam,

I liked what you did in pulling the composite together. However, after seeing Jim's riff, I thought it made it more realistic for me.
