So, the first thing I had to do is try to google where Arch and Olive streets are . . . is it St. Louis? Famous-Barr parking garage seems to reinforce that it is, yes, St. Louis. Okay, now that we have that out of the way - I am intrigued (as perhaps you were) by the play of light and the reflections on the buildings and windows of the buildings on the right. I appreciate the perspective and the way the tall building in the background provides a stopping or resting point for the eye. Since I work a lot with images of buildings (for my day job) I am always appreciative of the effort that goes into getting the perspective right (the background building is upright, no perspective skew there, parallax). I believe also you have achieved your goals of keeping the interest away from the street yet grounding the buildings. |

Oliver,
love those little cobbled alleyways in European (I'm guessing) cities. It works very well in monochrome and I think your edits have enhanced the textures and tones to provide a lot of interest in this image. It also reminds me of one of my own images, posted here recently, so I feel right at home in this image. Not familiar with the Artisan software, many options to explore for editing black and white. It's exciting, I think, to find those photos in the archives that are several years old and revisit them and end up with a gem, as you have here. |

Emil, orderly, that's a good word. Thanks for the suggested edits, I think the additional emphasis of darks/lights on the ceilings helps reinforce the pattern and am chagrined I didn't think to crop the image myself. Surprisingly few edits to reinforce the drama. |
