62 Dec 20 Comment LuAnn,
I have just used a macro lens for the first time (I generally tend to shoot larger things, like buildings) - and it is a challenge. So, I can appreciate your macro image in a new way as a result of that modest effort on my part. I would say from your description that it is a pretty amazing capture, so congrats on that. The edits you have made in the B&W have given the image a sort of infrared look, not sure if that was your intent, but I think it works.

Was also interested to heard you had put together a zine, as you had mentioned it to me a few months ago. I'll be interested in learning when you have it for sale as I'd like to see it (and be inspired).

62 Dec 20 Comment Emil, I first noticed this image in a tiny thumbnail on my phone, and it captured me then. Something about stairs, a recurring theme in my own images. The black and white works very well for the abandoned feel - peeling paint, dark stairways. I love the play of light and shadow on the stairs, and the sense of foreboding from the security window and darkness of the upper landing. Nicely seen and captured! Dec 9th
62 Dec 20 Comment Israel, this is a great image, and the choice of sepia tones works really well with the old truck/wild west/abandoned feel to the image. I also like the way the word "Solitaire" is captured in the windscreen. I agree that lightening the shadows in the front helps. Love the story behind it as well - in Namibia, of all places. In their heyday, American cars made it everywhere, did they not? Dec 9th
62 Dec 20 Comment Bob,
Gingko leaves do turn a beautiful shade of golden yellow, and your original image captures that very well, but I really like the golden hue of the monochrome version. The technique you described for this photo sounds fascinating, and has given the image a very ethereal look and feel (in either color or B&W). Very nice. Thanks for sharing - both the image and the technique. (I might have to try that).

62 Dec 20 Comment Hi, Bunny,
and welcome to the group. It's a great collection of folks and I've learned a lot in the last few months since I've been a part of this group. I like your first photo - and the story behind it! - as well as the way you have cropped it. I found myself wondering about the background, and I am thinking that it is a wallpaper, perhaps, and not some form of manipulation to the photo?
But then I saw the second image, with the roses, and I have to say it is wonderful. The balance/composition and the darker tones really work for me on the second image. The only suggestion I would make there is that perhaps it needs a bit more "space" or "air" at the top of the photo, so that the tops of the leaves are not so close to the edge of the frame. Otherwise, the second photo really works for me!

62 Dec 20 Comment Oliver,
what a cutie! and such a nice capture. I am envious - as a cat owner, it is rare when I can get a "portrait" because he seems to have a sixth sense when the camera approaches. I like the suggestion of an image for a Christmas card! I'm struggling to find something helpful, but I don't feel I have anything to add.

I am glad to hear you are on the mend - be patient with the process and try not to rush it!

62 Dec 20 Comment Thanks, Bob, Oliver and Bunny,
I confess, I'm inclined to echo Bunny's comments, as I'm not much on replacing skies. This is in part because I'm lucky to be able to do basic edits as much as anything. However, someone will have to explain to me why the sky wasn't "interesting" to begin with, as I confess I don't get it. Another point would be that my interest (professionally and photographically) is in the building.
Having said all of that, I downloaded the suggested revisions, and compared them with the "original" version as posted - in part to try to understand the concern that you all expressed. I do appreciate the feedback and the suggestions, and if any of you has a moment to elaborate on the cloud issue, I'd be appreciative.
