Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
62 Jul 20 Comment LuAnn, I am happy to be more specific but keep in mind that these are my reactions and may be counter to your overall intention. To my eye there are two areas - the first is at the bottom of the wall under the iron tools, what looks to be a fire extinguisher and related items. This area just reads a bit busy to me and perhaps these objects could have been moved out of the frame. The other concern or visual distraction is that the tarps appear to me to be a bit creased and rumpled. I understand that they are there to cover other distractions, which makes sense. For me, having a smoother finish to the background (or perhaps making it darker?) would provide a more striking relief for the character of the blacksmith.
Hope this helps. Thanks for the opportunity.

62 Jul 20 Comment Israel, I agree with most of the comments above, especially the thought about how close the shoulder is to the right edge and bringing out or eliminating the shadows on the face. The depth of field works well to eliminate background clutter and keep the focus on Meir - he does have a lively face and an enchanting smile. Great capture, thank you. Jul 9th
62 Jul 20 Comment Bob, this is a moody image with the sky and water and sense of a menacing storm. I think the sky in the image works very well, adds a touch of tension to the scene. I appreciate the crop from the original to bring the focus to the building. I find the wall on the right fascinating (but I am quite into architectural forms and this looks like a wall built without mortar. It seems a challenging environment for that, and that is part of what makes it fascinating.) The buildings on the right don't distract from the image for me, though I get the point about how eliminating those would add to a sense of abandonment during the storm. Thanks for sharing. Jul 9th
62 Jul 20 Comment I'd definitely go out of my way to capture this old truck! I think it works as black and white, and I also like the sepia version. I appreciate the effort that went into the edits and think you did a great job bringing out the shadows on the side of the truck to capture the name. Shows what some patience can do to bring out the best in an image. Well seen. Thanks for sharing. Jul 9th
62 Jul 20 Comment LuAnn,
an interesting environmental portrait, and I agree with the comment above about the crop. I'm not sure if it's intended, but to my eye, the blacksmith looks a bit menacing, but I supposed if I literally played with fire all day, I might look that way too. I definitely prefer the black and white image, which for me allows the character of the man and his surroundings to stand out. For me the background is a little busy, and detracts somewhat from the intensity of the eyes and the fires. (Just read about the heat - it must have gotten quite warm while shooting this.) Thanks for sharing this great image.

62 Jul 20 Comment Oliver, I really like the closer in crop of the revised image, which makes the focus of the image the bee. I don't think I would have thought to try an image like this in black and white, but I think it really works, due to the texture and tones in both the bee and the flower. I'm not a macro/flower/ insect person myself, but this one works for me. Thanks for sharing. Jul 9th
62 Jul 20 Comment Thanks, Bob,
I appreciate the feedback. I agree with you about the wall and the reflection, so will have to try editing it to see what I can do.

62 Jul 20 Reply Thanks, Emil, appreciate the feedback. Setting the camera on black and white helps to "see" what works in B&W - and conversely, what doesn't. Jul 9th
62 Jul 20 Reply Thanks, Oliver. Little did I know on New Year's Day that closed shops in a small downtown was going to become the norm. I do like the darker wall on the bottom so will have to try playing around with that. Thanks for the suggestion. Jul 9th
