Hi, Todd:
I concur with your crop; the fallen tree provided a much stronger leading line into the light. |

Hi, Lamar:
Love the shapes of the tree trunks, especially the one that reached for the sky. I am glad that you had beautiful clouds in the left upper corner, as it provided balance to the overall composition.
With so many tools at our disposal, we should learn from you pushing the boundaries of our imagination. Well captured and processed! |

Hi, Kathryn:
You caught the Cholla under very pleasing light. I have shot these prickly subjects in Anza Borrego State Park recently. There was one area of the park that is filled with thousands of them. It was quite treacherous walking among them as there were many fallen thorny cacti that pierced through my hiking boots. Have you tried to shoot the Cholla backlit? They glow like crazy. Here is my attempt at it: https://www.yuanphoto.com/Landscapes/Anza-Borrego-State-Park-Joshua-Tree-NP/Best-of-Anza-Borrego-and-Joshua-Tree-NP/i-qG6ffDF/A
Attached image is my attempt to crop the foreground and increased the orange saturation a bit. |

Hi, Judy:
When the weather is not cooperating, always survey your surrounding looking for shapes and textures. You have done a wonderful job on that. As other mentioned, I also like the original image better; it has more glow that attracted my eyes. I think if you could increase the exposure on the processed image by 1 to 1.5 F stop, it might be stronger. |

Hi, Todd;
This image reminded me of places along Hwy 1 on the N. California coast south of Carmel. Your post processing focused our attention to the strong shape and texture of the rocks in the midst of a foggy morning. I wonder whether darkening of the right upper corner of the image would make this image even stronger. |

Hi, Pierre:
Very evocative image! I would concur with Judy's cropping of the image. The foreground is kept cleaner and refocus one's attention to the setting sun and colorful sky. |

Hi, Frans:
Guilin is a photo-rich environment. I really enjoyed my visit there several years ago. The windless condition in the cave created this mirror-like reflection of these stalactites. I wonder whether it would be permissible to throw a stone into the pond to create ripples that would add some interest in this rather static image. I have cropped and converted the image into B/W. By removing the color, the unique and interesting shapes of these formation would standout more. |
