Actually, Steve, I expected someone to criticize the tilted horizon. I left it in intentionally to add to the viewer's discomfort. But the more I look at the picture that just seems like a silly artifact. What do you folks think? |

What I love about the shot is the glow through the outer 4 primary feathers on EACH wing. That's special. I believe it's an adult because a juvenile should have a gray nape and your bird has the red nape of an adult. I'm not sure about removing shadows. I'd like to see the colors (even though they're gray) on the birds belly and inner wings. Perhaps increasing exposure even more than you did would expose those feathers. |

Of the many meanings of photography, your photo, Jeffrey, evoked a strong reaction in me. I had booked a trip to Tanzania with our 2 sons last September, and then life changed for all of us. Your Roller is one of the birds I'd encountered while studying my bird guide books which shook my belief that such birds really exist. And I share Steve's surprise that you could retrieve such well defined plumage with such a strong crop. Well done! |
