85 Apr 20 Comment Enjoyed watching the flight! So for my understanding, is this "photo" a video frame shot you grabbed versus a still photo taken by the drone?
Was the return flight an "auto GPS" guided return or were you hand flying it all the way down? It looks like your caught it with your hand, which turns out to be the method I seem to most often use.
My Mavic Pro 2 is advertised to have a range up to 5 miles, but I have just not experienced this as being accurate. I'm still a newbie, but around St. Louis when I fly it I can't get much above 1 mile before I start getting warnings with interference.
When I was in Iceland, I would go out about 2 miles, but there was zero radio interference out there and good line of sight lines to the aircraft (but you couldn't actually see the aircraft because it was so far away)
I need to figure out how to post videos on youtube for next month. I've never done this.

85 Apr 20 Reply Interesting you comment editing video is time consuming. I am just a beginning rookie with it, but have been using Photoshop to do so and my experience is that it is really pretty quick and easy unless you are getting fancy. I will shoot several short video segments of a subject, load them all into Photoshop and can quickly cut/splice them together into a single video. I will then use this video as an element in a "show" where most of the other images are still photos. It gives a nice variety to the final show. Just something for you to think about! Apr 8th
85 Apr 20 Reply Yes there are flying restrictions in Iceland, basically the same as here regarding National Parks as No Fly Zones. Also around airports, but given extremely low population density most of the country is wide open for flying.
Yes, the cold temperatures were a REAL problem. It affects battery life somewhat. One day it was near zero degrees F and my cell phone (monitor on the remote controller) just went dead - yet it had 85% battery life. Fortunately for me the drone was close by and I was able to manually land it. Turns out phones have hi and low temperature switches in them and they just shut off! After it warmed up later it worked just fine. A real watchout for low Temp flying! Mainly the constant wind in Iceland was the challenge to deal with.

85 Apr 20 Comment I haven't learned yet to look straight down on subjects with my drone. You have done it very effectively here! Your composition is pretty simple, which makes it powerful! Good job of establishing the strong lines in this image.
While I really like your cropping, the devil is in the details: you have some mergers with the little tree across the fence on the left. If you could give it just a tiny bit more room to eliminate them that would help for me. Also would consider cloning out the couple pieces of trash in the yard, the red object at the top side of the fence and the building/hose in the top left corner of the image.
I might experiment with the exposure a little bit, perhaps taking it overall down about 1/2 stop.
You have seen some very nice lines in an otherwise ordinary location - and that makes this image really interesting. I compliment you on having seen it and captured it!

85 Apr 20 Comment I haven't been here before, and as I study it I speculate the actual chateau is the building on the far left and the town of Saverne is straight ahead? If that is the case, then this view does a good job of placing chateau into the setting of the town. Looks like you had an overcast day and your exposure is spot on - good color saturation throughout. Sky is handled very effectively.
Without doubt it is a beautiful setting. And my eye wants to wonder around the entire image! However for a strong photo with instant impact, you need the subject to be crystal clear/unmistakable. You want the viewer's eye to immediately get "stuck" on the main subject. Finding a way to make the Chateau more prominent in the image would I think help in that.

85 Apr 20 Comment Now this is a really interesting subject! The house has a story to tell. Let's start with cropping. As you have it now cropped, you might consider flipping it 180 degrees since our brains read left to right. This lets you get led into the scene, with the house on the right. Another cropping alternative is to put it into a square format but then you would loose the great grass out front.
So if you leave it cropped as is, I would look at cloning out the two old tires (don't need to leave ANY bait laying around in the image to distract the eye away from the subject) I would also look at really burning down the perimeter of the image all the way around, you need to keep the eye focused INSIDE the image and on the subject.
I would definitely keep working on post processing this image because I think it is an interesting keeper.

85 Apr 20 Comment I like this image! It has immediate recognition of the location and is not a perspective we often see of it. Effective cropping, you've placed the subject right at a crash point. Great detail in the water. Couple of small nits: might try a graduated filter on the sky to darken it some more. Also might clone out the small boats immediately to the left and right of the statue back at the shoreline. Apr 2nd
