Thanks for your comments Andrew. Something different, and it is good to see a robust discussion on an image. That is what this group is all about. |

I agree Bunny. It is fun to have fun. I submit both print and digital images to my club each month and, of course, I try to make the image the best they can be. That is just fine, but sometimes we just need to let our hair down and go crazy. DD is the perfect place for that. |

Well, that is pretty cool Harley. I like the effect. When I was looking at the thumbnail I thought the glass shards were birds. You have given me an idea for an Alfred Hitchcock type photo using this lighthouse and birds. Now if I can only find a photo of Tippy Hedren:) |

Thanks Bunny, the original was raw, but I worked on a jpg to convert to mono and do the adjustments. I really wasn't worried about halos and artifacts since I thought they might add to the effect. It won't win any awards, but was fun to play with. |

Thanks for your comment. I was just trying to do something different and you folks are my best sounding board for stuff like that. My intention was for it to be harsh looking so your comments fit. By the way, I just noticed what you describe as beams of light. That was not in the original, must have snuck in when I uploaded. I do like them though. |

Well Harley, what the heck is going on here. What is the photographer taking a photo of. Why does the second firepit have only one chair when the closer firepit has four? Did we kick someone out of the party???? I would put this shot into the Street Photography genre. You have caught a unposed moment in a scene that makes the viewer wonder. It is also a bit humorous. And the fact that you took this shot from above almost gives it a bit of mystery. Good color and composition, the blue of the chairs contrasts nicely with the sand they are sitting on.
Fun shot. |

Hi Mark, I think you are one foot and one foot out with this shot. Much too blurry for an action shot and not blurry enough for a creative shot. Since you can't make it sharper why not take it further? There is great color in the uniforms and interesting solid objects with the ball and helmet. You might play with it a bit in Photoshop and add more blur and perhaps give the background some interesting and colorful texture. Try a different crop or even give the image some rotation so we need to think about what we are seeing. You have a good start to an interesting, creative image. |

I really like the processing you did on this image Bunny. You work really made the entire scene pop. The leading line is unmistakable here and your husband as the lone solider trudging toward the mountains tells the story completely. I do like the fact he is in red so we unmistakably see him against the background. The width of the road, your leading line, enhances the vastness of this image as the mountains seem so far, far away. While I think the processing is great in the image, I prefer the crop and perspective of the original. To my eye it just seems like your husband has so much farther to go on his journey and has been trudging along for quite some time.
Nice work. |

Well done Captain Andrew. Beautiful early morning capture. I really like the starburst over the mountains. It brings the eye right there and then lets you follow the rays to the plane standing ready for takeoff. The plane's skin seems to glisten in the early morning light too. I like how you have handled the shadows, not too dark and they let us focus on the aircraft. Well composed and a nice beauty shot of the plane. I also like the bit of flare on the tail-it works.
Nice work here. |
