Thanks for your comment Mark. The Sepia really changed the look of the image for the better. AS for the distortion on the left, that is wash from the helicopter engine. I considered removing it, but in the end let it stay as it is part of the story. |

Well, sometimes we just have to take what we get. They aren't all easy shots, just fun shots. |

I like the soft look of you image Lane. You are an expert at that look and do it well. Good work on capturing the hummer sharply, especially the eye, and also blurring the wing tips, as was your plan. I think this is a Ruby Throated hummer and I know that they have nice iridescent greens on the body. I personally would have liked to see a bit of them here, but I realize that may not be what your were going for in this image.
Nice shot. |

Thanks Harley, the dog is what really caught my attention. He appeared to like the jump. |

You are presenting an interesting look given your original Harley. I like the fact that we can see the man's face and it appears he is looking for a place to land. Your color in the image is good and so is the composition. I do like the stone break wall in the background giving the photo a bit of tension since I an hoping he does not land on that wall. I do think we need to see what is holding this guy in the air. We both know it is a kite from the original, but just to look at your finished product it seems he is hanging from something, but we don't know what.
By the way, you have really brought out a lot of detail and color in the new version vs. the original. |

Well Mark, the old "nature rules" are somewhat restrictive. Most all of the nature images I post here follow them as that is the rule in my club and council. The best way work with them is to keep them in mind when shooting photos--not always easy though. As for your image you have a good capture in the cat. Yes, the background is hot and sometimes we can't help that, but only work to minimize it. I think Harley's suggestion is a good one, he brightened and sharpened the eyes and fur while cropping out as much of the hot sky as possible which gives more real estate to the cat. Most clubs nature rules allow dodging and burning so you could darken that highlight if your club will permit that.

Bunny, your use of selective color on this monochrome really makes it pop. You have isolated the subject nicely from the blur of color in the original and are telling a story too. I like the tight crop which further accentuates the subject. Just in time for Halloween!
Might I suggest your take a brush set to desaturate and touch the face of the women on the right and the one in the back left. They still have a bit of orange on their faces which can be easily remove. |

Well done Leo. I like the vastness of your image and the beautiful reflection in the still water. Your image has a lot of interest with the firework display and the bright lights of the city separated by the tower in the center. Given that and the fact that your split the image on the horizontal center gives us four quadrants to view and all are very nice. Great image I would not change a thing. |

Well caught Andrew. Peak action, the athletes face with determination on it and the ball. That is all that is needed for a sport shot--the ball being key. I think your crop is spot on and the fact that you were able to give the background a bit of a blur adds to the overall look and really separates the player from it. Your low POV gets me, the viewer, into the shot. I feel like I am right there on the sand! |
