43 Jul 24 Reply Thanks for your comments Andrew. Yes, a plain blue sky is just boring for aerial photography, the clouds do add interest. I was also looking for some land objects to include in my shots, but easier said than done.
As you noticed, the jets have their number right side up on one side of the aircraft and upside down on the other. I wonder if that is just for the show planes or if all F-16's are that way.

43 Jul 24 Comment You have captured a great urban scene here Leo. I really like how you have blurred the car lights with a long shutter speed. It gives your image a sense of great motion. That, contrasted with the buildings shrouded in fog makes for a very interesting photo. The golden color of you image and the fact it is a nighttime shot gives it beauty. The fact that you used a wide angle lens gives the viewer a vast look at the scene, but I do think that the straightening that Mark suggested gives us a more realistic view of the perspective. Nice work. Jul 23rd
43 Jul 24 Comment Hi Harley, shooting birds is all about positioning. The sun needs to be behind you, in this case the sun was above you so you had light on top of the gull and not much under its wings or on its body. That said, you have a great shot of a gull with lunch in its beak which is what a nature photographer wants. These shots are harder to get and take patience. A bird in flight or posed on the shore is a nice shot, but PSA will give more weight to shots of birds "doing something" in their competitions (eating, tending to young etc.). I like your capture with wings up and fish in the beak--very good composition. You might try to burn the brighter areas as Mark suggested and I would also like to see you try to lighten the body and underside of the close wing. Jul 18th
43 Jul 24 Comment Good catch Mark, I love these little guys. They are lots of fun to photograph when active. Your image really shows their daily activity. Standing near their nest and looking around for trouble--aka the hawk. Normally I would want to see two eyes on the bird, but in this case I think what you captured is perfect. It is a bit of a humorous look at them. You have good light and detail on the birds and the background is nice and blurry, but I would suggest to darken it as I feel it takes my eye from the subject to the bright background.
Good work here.

43 Jul 24 Comment Lovely monochrome Lane. Nice and moody, minimal dynamic range, a bit of noise, indistinguishable objects in the background--everything you would want in an image of this type. I like how you have the dock on the horizon so we can see those great reflections in the water and which has the bonus of showing less sky which, here, is nothing. My only suggestion would be to shift the image a bit left or right to either eliminate or show all of the piling on the very right.
Nice work.

43 Jul 24 Comment Well Bunny, you caught this guy mid fluff--he's a cutie. You have great detail and sharpness on the the bird, I like its pose and the platform it is on. It is a nice natural presentation. Colors are good and I like the sharpness of the eye especially.
I wish there was a bit more light on the left side, but from the original I see you did not have much there either. Nice Image.
Here is a tip. When posting images with very dark or black areas at the borders put a 2-3 pixel stroke around the image. That way your photo will be more defined on the black background of the display area.

43 Jul 24 Comment Super photojournalistic shot Andrew. Peak action of the copter dropping on the fire. I really like how the background is shrouded in smoke yet we can see the outline of the mountains in the distance. I feel I am right there, up close and personal, with the action, I can almost smell the smoke. Your perspective is perfect. This really tells a story. As far as the rotors go, oh well, there is too much else to see to worry about them. With shots like these everything happens in the blink of an eye and it is not easy to make adjustments before the action goes away.
Great shot.

43 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Leo. Shot with my R5, as you know, it has very good image tracking and auto focus. Still, the photographer has to be very quick as the planes are zooming through the sky. Jul 18th
43 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Bunny. From my vantage, and the photo I took, they look like they are are on top of each other. I think there is some horizontal separation so what we see is the illusion of them being so close. But, there can't be too much separation or the folks in the ground audience would not be as impressed as we were and the illusion would not work. Jul 18th
43 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Mark. When editing I was torn between what I have posted and what you have shown edited. I thought they both looked good, but in the end I liked the exhaust trail as I thought it gave the image a bit of motion vs. two planes static in the air. Jul 18th
43 Jul 24 Reply Thanks Harley. To get that positioning of the planes they start out farther apart (the top one upside-down) and pull closer and closer together until they look like my shot. From my vantage it looks like the tails were inches apart, but I believe they are farther away on the horizontal plane so the illusion is what we see. Of course this takes place in seconds as they are zooming through the sky. Jul 18th
