I agree about the background Lane. The bird was just too close to it to have good separation. I try not to do too much work on nature images since my camera club has nature rules similar to PSA and I feel it is better to leave the image as is rather than incur the rath of club judges. |

Thanks for your comments Andrew. You are correct about the halos. Mostly caused by the distance and maybe some touch up work. I noticed it, but liked the image anyway. It is hard to get all the stars to align (HA HA). |

Thanks for your comments Bunny. I do agree about the blur.
The eagle perches near a lake of the chances of "Bird in Flight with Fish" are good. If I do get that shot you guys will be the first to know! |

That blur is better, but now there is white fringing around the bird. That is one of the downsides of adding too much of anything be it blur, texture, noise reduction etc. I always think it is best to get it right in camera, but as we all know sometimes we need to be Photoshop magicians to get the right look. |

Thanks for your comments Mark. I think I did burn the head a bit, but I am not sure it is that overexposed. On my monitor I can see detail and feather separation. It is always a task to get white right when there is direct sun. |

Well Andrew if you were going for movement--you nailed it!
Pretty cool image and very artsy. I like your take on the barrel racer. In fact I almost feel like I am riding that horse. We all have seen tack sharp riders against a blurred background and that is what is what we expect. Boring! I think you have put your viewer on the horse and given them a taste of what it feels like to ride that pony in the ring. The Sepia treatment works well and adds to the experience.
Well done. |

This is what Macro is all about. Very cool Harley, I just love those little hairs on the bud. Talk about tack sharp! I like your composition here, it gives an interesting look, almost like a shower head (just my opinion). I think you have captured your subject perfectly. Bravo. I bet this would look cool on a black background too. |

Nice exposure on this actor Mark. You have a very photogenic guy here and your image also tells a story. You have captured him looking into the light giving a bit of catchlight in the eye. Because of that, his beard is full of interest and texture. It almost looks like you used a reflector to light the left side (as i view it) of his face because it is well exposed too. Your background is nice and out of focus and we can tell from the buttons on his jacket that he is a military man. In my opinion you have a great portrait here. The only thing i would have like to see is just a bit more head turn toward the viewer, but as it is I am wondering what he is looking at so scratch that head turn thing.
Nice work on this one. |

I like your use of color and texture in this shot Lane. The orange of the fungi plays well with all the shades of green you are showing us. As much as I like sharp I do like the softness of this image. I feel it would be best viewed from afar and not on a computer monitor 18" from your nose. These fungi are soft and hard to get tack sharp in a photo, The moss on the tree--same thing. The grass in the wind adds to the airy effect of the image. This type of image is not for everyone, but many folks will love it. My only suggestion would be to crop just a bit off of the bottom of the image to eliminate those stray strands of grass on the right side.
Nice shot. |

I like how you shot this from a very low angle and we can almost touch the curvy pattern on the tracks. This is a study in leading lines and it is a master class! I just love how the tracks zoom into the hills and if we look past the glass we wonder where they are going. I also feel you have a very nice contrast between the rusty orange and the green of the vegetation. For me, the glass is not really needed here as it find it too large for its placement on the track and it almost stops my eye right there. I imagine that is what you were going for though and in that case I would suggest to make it somewhat smaller. Nice creative shot Bunny |

Leo, this is a fun look at the New Years Parade. I like you subject matter and the hand reaching for the balloon pushes it into the genre street photography in my opinion. I like the warm tones of the subjects and the fact that we can see lots of folks behind the barricade finishes the story for the viewer. I do suggest brightening the subject and the hand just a bit while darkening the background where the clock tower is. That would give your subject a bit more prominence in the photo and lessen the bright (and cool tone) background. I have added a updated shot to show what I am talking about. I have also given a slight crop to eliminate the rectangle stack on the right. I think this is a great shot. Good catch. |
