Hi Charissa, just visiting from group 43. Noticed your image and just had to comment. I feel you have captured a wonderful shot of this rose--I can almost smell it! The detail in the pedals and Sepals is super sharp. As everyone else has mentioned your lighting is spot on and really makes this the special shot it is. Your choice of a black background, in my opinion, is perfect as it gives all the attention to your subject. Good work. |

Thanks Harley. I do think you coaxed a bit more detail out of the back of the bird. White birds are a tough one. Can't really do a HDR because they will not stand still no matter how much I ask them to. The tops of them usually get overexposed a bit. I need to keep trying to find a way to get better exposure, I am thinking underexpose and bring up in Lightroom while holding back the top feathers. |

Leo, I feel you have captured a wonderful "moment" of a woman and her dog. I like the warm tones of the girl and the dog in the shot produced by taking this at the Golden Hour. It looks like they are resting after a run or just contemplating the day. Your composition works well putting your subject on a power point in the rule of thirds. I also like the out of focus background which keeps our eye on the subject. I have a few suggestions though. The background where the other people are is a much different tone than your subject, that is OK but I feel if it was darkened just a bit it might enhance the shot. Also the log in the lower center of the image, in my opinion, is a bit of a distraction. Nice work. |

This works well Harley. You have kept the best part of the sky and given the pond a position of power using the rule of thirds. The path leads the eye into the frame and the overall color and tone are pleasing. Nice! |

I see you are having fun with your new toy. I like the contrast between the cool lake and the barren landscape. I also like the paths in your image, but feel the horizontal road at the bottom seems to distract the flow of your image. I provide an alternate crop for you to consider. I feel this leads the eye into the frame and around the image on the paths giving more importance to the pond with those nice tree reflections in the water. What do you think? |

Thanks for your comments Linda. The bird is just a bit hot on top, although I can make out some detail on my screen. Photographing white in the sun is always a challenge. I try to manually adjust exposure, but the lighting always keeps changing--especially early in the day. |

I like what you have done here Linda. I think the monochrome treatment also works well for this image. |

I love the way you have used light and shadow in this image Linda and you are telling a great story with it too. The leading line of the bright net brings us to the fisherman who is obscured in darkness making the viewer want more--well done. I also like how you have captured crisp water droplets all around the net which is frozen in time by using a high shutter speed. Of course monochrome was the way to go for this shot. I feel this may have been a grab shot and you did well to capture it, only thought is that horizon cuts the fisherman's head off. Very nice. |

Well Mark, when you can't go out--do table top photography. I really like this image, the shadow is tack sharp and we can see much detail there. Your exposure on the Geisha is spot on also and you are giving us a nice look at her. In my opinion the shadow is the star of the show and I feel I might like to see it bigger in proportion to the statue. Of course, you would need a bigger boat (er table) for that. You have inspired me to give something like this a try. Good job. |

Well Andrew, mission accomplished. I feel you have captured a wonderful landscape with a beautiful reflection in the water. I like how the mountains both actual and reflected are leading lines drawing the viewer into the shot. In my opinion you have the 3 necessary elements of a successful landscape--foreground, middle and distant interest. Your colors appear to be well saturated and are very pleasing. My only suggestion would be to lighten the snow on the mountains just a wee bit to bring out a bit more texture. Very nice work. |
