Nice shot Alex, it makes me think lonely and cold.. You have captured vastness, I feel, and the lone person on the dunes adds to the overall starkness of the image. I like how you have positioned the subject far right. It does look like they are looking out of the frame though. Might be nice to have them survey the dunes and lake next time. None the less cool image. |

Thanks for your comments Alex. Yes, the panoramic does seem to convey movement, must be optical trick of some sort. As for the right to left movement I just don't ever remember to change my images. Mostly because, in my mind, regardless of how we read animals and movements sometimes do go right to left. Go figure. I'll keep trying to remember. |

I like the colors of the sky in your image Lane--very plague like. The bare trees around the old delipidated building give it that spooky look that I feel you were going for in the shot. I think your use of underexposing the building and foreground adds to the effect. I also notice that the side of the building leads the eye to the partial sun signifying hope given your image title. I do agree with Linda though and feel that I would like to see just a bit more detail in the house on the front side and roof. Nice image. |

If the artists thought you were confused you might have been talking to the wrong artists! I feel that art is art. Not everyone likes everything, but everyone likes something. It is just what strikes your fancy. Photos are art, but not all art are photos. So I say if you like it--go for it. |

Hi Linda: Thanks for your comments. She was drab and got quite lost in the photos with the dark branches reflecting in the water in the color version. Now in B&W the bird is front and center. I agree with the flip. Most of us read from left to right and the flip makes the image look more natural. My problem is I just never think to do this when I am editing. |

Hi Mark, this I think is a nice warm shot of the Monastery. I like the yellow and brown tones of the furniture and floor. The place looks inviting to me. I am wondering what is over on the right through the arch. I see nice detail work on the arch and a nice window farther in. I think I would like to see more, at least the whole window. That way you might have and image within an image and give the viewer two subjects to view. As it is there is mystery, not always a bad thing either. |

Well Harley you certainly have an interesting, abstract image here. I like the colors and the way it looks over (or under) painted. I can see it hanging in a modern art gallery, but I am not sure it does qualify for a photograph--maybe a first cousin though. Nice creative image. |

You really warmed this one up Linda. I like the fact that you increased the exposure on the foreground and barn giving us a nice look at the old structure. I also think that the warm tones make the overall image more inviting. Your composition, in my opinion, is just right and I like the open space to the right. I do feel though that the sky on the left is a bit saturated and although it does pull your eye to the subject I might like it better is it were just a bit more muted. Very nice image in my opinion. |

Thanks for your comment Lane. It does break a few rules and I intended to do that. I am trying to use the water trail as part of the subject making the bird stretch across the frame hoping to cause some tension in the viewer. Just an experiment and I am happy for the feedback.
