Thanks for your comments Alex. It is a very interesting place. Somewhere you would not want to spend years of your life at for sure. Worth the trip though. While the interior is more of the same with all of the cells, they do let you go into the wardens living quarters and offices. The link to the movie Shawshank Redemption is evident in only a few places, but cool anyway. What I really thought was interesting was the exterior architectural design which I think to be Gothic. Beautiful building holding the bad guys.
If you make the trip, bring a wide angle lens and tripod. |

Thanks Harley, not only was it a dismal location, but it was early spring and there was no heat! I was shivering the whole time I was there. |

Well Harley, you certainly pulled all you could from your original. I think the lighting on her face is flattering and she is giving you a beautiful smile. I like how you cropped to just head and shoulders, and also the vignette which brings the viewers attention directly to the subject. I like the eye contact with the viewer keeping them engaged with your image. Nice work. |

I know those early morning shots are tricky. I really like going out at sunrise to shoot birds also, but like you said a fast shutter speed is needed and the light is too dim for a low ISO therefore I always get noise which tends to soften the image. |

Nice find on the owl I think they are very elusive and you were fortunate to find him. I do like how you caught him taking off showing the blur of the wing implying movement. I do wonder what your camera settings were because I think his body is just a bit soft although the eye is what catches our attention and that is nice and sharp. |

You found a cool model Mark. Love the get up and crazy look. I think you have a nice classic pose and have cropped well. I even like the little starburst on her right shoulder as it adds to the overall look. I must agree with Linda though I think a darkened background would help eliminate the distractions around her head an make her pop a bit more. Nice fun shot. |

Thanks Linda. I do have a few versions of this (B&W, grunge look etc.) it lends itself well to adjustments. |

I like the classic pose of the bunting and I think you have cropped well to show him off. Your soft background is very pleasing and even the lighter spots seem to enhance your photo bringing attention to the bird. I think though, the sun was in the wrong position for this shot. It appears to be shining on the back right of him and if it were coming across your back and hitting the bird on the front left I think you would have its colors pop and enhance the details.
I realize sometimes it is just grab and go to get a shot, but just something to think about next time. |

Well Linda talk about making a silk purse out of a sows ear! You have completely transformed a dead leaf on the sidewalk into a work of art. I think your efforts in painting on the leaf were well rewarded. I like the texture and dimension of the leaf, it looks like you brought it back to life. Your textured background, in my opinion, sets this off perfectly. The colors you have chosen harmonize well and enhance the leaf and I feel the variation in shades give your image depth, so much so that I feel I could pick it up and hold it in my hand. |
