9 Feb 22 Comment Hi Sherri,
Good story. Nice composition. I wonder how it would look if you darkened the foreground and the background but keep your fireworks composite bright. You captured a beautiful moment. It's a keepsake photo.

19 Feb 22 Reply Thank you Norm. I'll try a reflector. I have some nice flowers to practice. Feb 14th
19 Feb 22 Comment Hi Harriet,
Really nice winter scene. Your copper weathervane is beautiful. It deserves to be the subject. The fence provides a leading line. Good DOF. The weathervane stands out against the snow and fog in the background. Good story. Nicely done.

19 Feb 22 Comment Hi John,
Yes, I can see the eye and mouth of a fish. Well exposed. You captured sharp details on the lines and texture on the rock. Nice image. I wonder if you blurred the background rocks if it would further enhance the subject rock. It could be accomplished in post processing. Just a thought.

19 Feb 22 Comment Hi Norm,
Breathtaking image. The Arch created a natural frame. Good DOF leading my eye to the snow capped mountains and clouds. The blue sky complements the warm orange color of the Arch. The lines, shadows, and texture contribute to a nice composition. Nicely done.

63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Charles,
Thank you so much for your help and explanation. Initially I focus stacked manually. Then recently I switched over to use the focus shift feature on my camera to capture more focus slices, as you had suggested in a previous post. It made a big difference on the yellow mum with 41 slices. Then I shot another flower at an angle (50 slices) attempting to add more dimension. It was blurry. Now I understand that the secret is "more slices". I also will pay more attention to the details in post processing. You have helped me a great deal. Hopefully my next image will be improved.

63 Feb 22 Reply Hi Charles,
Thank you for your suggestions and example. I see that I should tweak it in post processing to achieve more dimension. Your edited flower looks better. Recently I tried to shoot a flower at an angle but couldn't get sharp focus throughout. It seemed impossible since many petals were on different planes. Is there a way to shoot a stack of images at an angle and achieve sharp focus through the entire flower or other subject?

63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Richard,
Yes, it worked very well. Good exposure. You captured "Liberty and Trust" nicely. The colors (blue and rust) and the texture on the coin add to the image. The shallow DOF with the bokeh looks good. I agree stacked images are not always necessary to create a quality photo. Many times we need softness to give more focus to the part of the subject that is important. You succeeded.

63 Feb 22 Comment Thanks Neal. I'll work on that for next month. Feb 10th
63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Neal,
Another fine image well done. Sharp details and nice composition. Impressive.

63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Alane,
Nice shot. You captured great color and texture on the berries and leaves. I agree with Murphy to tone down the bright areas.

63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Murphy,
I like how you captured these beautiful violets in their natural setting complemented by the leaves. Nice bokeh. The flowers pop against the brown toned background. Well done.

63 Feb 22 Comment Thank you Murphy. I agree, I see that now. Feb 8th
63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Priscilla,
Lovely image. Vibrant color and sharp details on the carnations. Well exposed. The background is nice but the color of the flowers blends into the background colors. I would change the background color to complement the peach/orange toned carnations. I see a green tone in the upper left corner that might work. If you choose a complementary color to orange on the color wheel for the background, your subject flowers would pop and have more impact.

63 Feb 22 Comment Hi Charles,
Well done. Very creative. The images in the water droplets are incredible. The color and design of the background support the starburst effect. Each droplet is sharp and is perfectly placed on the background. Thank you for sharing your technique. I can see it wasn't easy and required much patience.

99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Lance,
Thank you for taking time to critique my image. Your opinion is important and helpful. I need to read more about Japanese photography.

99 Feb 22 Comment You edited the image quite well. You lightened the foreground nicely and gave more attention to the sand bags. Feb 11th
99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Leanne,
Nice composition. Good DOF and exposure. I like the darkness in the door as it draws my interest into the house. The tones and texture throughout the image work well for a monochrome image. It's a sad story but you captured it well while moving along in your car.

99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Randy,
This image has everything. Great texture, lines, shapes, and various tones. Nicely composed. I like the view through the window. The original-2 is also very interesting. It draws my eye into the window and up to the subject and has good DOF. Well done. Good story of yesteryear.

99 Feb 22 Comment It does looks better with a stroke. Feb 4th
99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Michael,
I'm also impressed that this was taken on a phone. Its sharp and well exposed. As Linda noted, you were able to capture lines, tones, shadows, textures, and shapes. The hinge on the lower right of the frame provides a focal point. Nicely done.

99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Peter,
Beautiful image. Well captured. Good story. I agree black and white suits the Charlie Chaplin era well. Their shadows create nice DOF. No improvements needed.

99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Linda,
Well done. His eyes and expression tell a good story. Perfectly exposed. You captured sharp details on your subject. I like it. I think I'll try street photography too. It's perfect for monochrome.

99 Feb 22 Comment Hi Gerard,
Great abstract. Good exposure and DOF. The texture and shadows create interest. I agree with Linda to flip it to take advantage of the leading line. Nicely done.
It appears to be the head skeleton of a fish.
