Hi Ye,
Welcome to the group. Glad you joined us.
You kicked off with the nice image. I like to color pallet and smoothness of the water. It give me peace of my mind.
I feel that the image is skewed to left and there is little things to see on the right. I would like to see a bit more foreground rock on the right and what the rocks below are look like. |

Hi Robert,
I looked at the re-edited image. I prefer the storm texture better.
As for crop of the bottom, I think it cropped too far for me. It now became easier for my eye to arrive at the center of attention, but at the same time, it lost the dynamic of the image. For me foreground dark mountain helps me to feel the vast of the scene. |

Hi Bob,
Thank you for pointing out about gradient filter. I, too, feel it is too obvious especially in landscape version.
I do not mind the reds are buried in the darkness. I do not want the color pop in the scene. I do not want to make it too far from what I saw at the spot, on the other hand, I need to add a bit of punch to make it better. I am always go back and forth between then. Thank you anyway for your comments and re-edits.
Please take care and hope you recover well soon. |

Thank you, Cheryl, for your comments and suggestions. Appreciate your honesty here.
I needed to cut the top to exclude the sky. But I see what you mean.

Hi Robert, you have a lot of beautiful images from that trip.
Since I am on the road, I am not able to attempt this image. I might come back with my attempt later, but in the meantime, let me start with my comments by answering your questions.
First of all, I would not clone the rock out in the lower right corner. For me it is not distracting. And if you crone out, there is little to see in that area and it becomes empty space for me.
Regarding the rainstorm in the sky, honestly, I do not like it personally. It looks unbalanced and it disconnects with the mood/emotions presented in Mt. Adams in my view. It is too strong for me.
Lastly, the pop of Mt. Adams is good enough. It delivers "the mood".
But overall, I like the image very much. A great capture. |

Thank you, Gloria. I understand why you prefer the landscape version. It helps.
I will work on it referencing the feedback I got. |

Thank you, Dan. I expected that you would prefer landscape version.
Thank you for your advice about "wonderland search". Will bear in my mind going forward. |

Thank you, Robert, for your comments and your attempt. I appreciate it very much.
Yes, your version looks pop and more dynamic. Since I do not use Nik series, I will play around myself. Based on your input, my challenge might be the balance of "pop" vs "subtle" in the case. I need to make decision where to land… |

Hi Dan,
My take is this is art. This art made me think and made me keep looking to understand what it is.
It triggered a lot of questions or doubts; "why Elk in the room", Is this Elk real", "what room is this", etc. as I see the image. I would imagine that it is a part of the strategy of art creators to make views think and appreciate.
For me, I found this interesting with mixture of unbalances, size, texture, mood, in relation to Elk vs room. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed it a lot. |

Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for sharing.
My comments might not be relevant because of my bias.
I took the same scene a long, long time ago with Velvia 50(film), and prints produced the same colors. I liked the colors, so it is still hanging on the wall in the living room. Since I like it and keep looking every day, it became natural to my eye. So, I do not have any doubt about your image at all.
So, I might not be in the good position to comment for that reason, but if I see the image with a fresh eye, I might say it looks over done, especially the upper part of mountain (purple cast) and greens. But it is really a personal taste though… |

Thank you for sharing, Bob.
You always look things different, which I admire. I would not come up to this composition.
This is a unique framing. Being a viewer, I eager to see the glass above the balcony. Hiding the subject works for me. It stimulates my emotion.
On the other hand, the color of balcony is a bit strong for me. I need some colors off-setting it in my eye. |

Hi Gloria,
Thank you for sharing.
Based on the description, I think your objectives are all met.
I find the interesting shape of the trees, which is well shown in silhouette.
And also I can sense the chaos of the city, whereas the sky brings peace of mind - it is a nice contrast. This image delivers what it is like a day in Rome.
If I may suggest, I would open up the shadow of the tower a bit to show the detail (keep the tree in silhouette), crop down the sky (make the cityscapes a center of attention) and show the chaos of the city more in the bottom. I would like to see more cars, not just top of the cars. This is my personal opinion. |
