40 Jan 21 Reply Hello Stephen and thank you for your comments. Because I am originally a graphic designer, I am acutely aware of the rules of composition. That is not to say I don't break the rules ever, but composition rules have become second nature after 30 years of being a graphic designer. I often use the Golden Mean/Fibonacci spiral, but in this image I just automatically placed the window on the third. I also like the positive and negative spacing in a minimalist image. Jan 26th

40 Jan 21 Comment I think prefer the original format (landscape). I like that the window is placed on the bottom left third. The portrait version places the window towards the middle of the composition and I don't think it works as well. I like the positive and negative spaces better on the landscape version. Jan 24th

40 Jan 21 Comment Thank you Henry and Alison for your suggestions. I am contemplating trying printing on wood and metal in the very near future. Maybe this would be a good image to try on metal. I do love abstracts as much as I love taking landscapes. Sure hope we can all get out to explore some new subjects this year.

40 Jan 21 Comment I love this. The vibrant color of this image is really working. I Like the background because it helps create depth if even it isn't deep. The berries come forward in the composition due to the bright green background. The only thing I would change is use a tripod and create a sharper subject/berries it seems a tiny bit out of focus. If you don't have a tripod then maybe a faster shutter speed. Jan 16th
40 Jan 21 Comment What fun! I think astrophotography is fascinating. Good for you for going out in the cold. In the summer, the Milkyway Galaxy is fun to shoot if you don't have a lot of light pollution. One of my camera clubs did a field trip away from light pollution and someone helped us understand what we needed to do. Are you going to try this skill again? I am a weather wheenie so I am waiting for warmer temperatures lol!

40 Jan 21 Comment Hi Jamie! I agree with Alison that your image has a tranquil, serene feel which helps convey beauty and elegance of the Waterlily. Normally, I stay away from placing my subject in the middle of the frame, but here it doesn't bother me at all. I would try increasing the exposure slider to the right in Lightroom. Beautiful color harmony! I like the placement of the crop. Congratulations Jan 16th
40 Jan 21 Comment Hi Henry! Looks like you were practicing macro shots. I love the silky texture of the Milkweed pod. Any particular reason you chose portrait rather than landscape orientation? I kind of feel like it might work better compositionally and, a bit more spaced out. For me, I think the milkweed pod is a beautiful object. Maybe place the brown seed on the third? My graphic designer self is always thinking about "rules" of composition. I love your idea! I have a 105mm macro lens and love it. Jan 16th
40 Jan 21 Comment I love your image! I have done a couple of circular planets and they are fun to do. The color harmony is beautiful. Love the purple sky. Super capture and editing-congratulations! Jan 16th
40 Jan 21 Comment Hello Andrew! I love the diagonal lines and because they are at a diagonal they imply motion. I do not know what a punt is, but it doesn't matter anyway IMHO. My eye does go to the lighter areas (bottom right), which are not nearly as interesting as the rich, warm wood texture above it. You captured a nice abstract.
